Charlie Watts, the Rolling Stones’ drummer since the group’s inception in 1962, is “unlikely to be available” for the group’s rescheduled U.S. tour this fall. Veteran drummer Steve Jordan, who has worked extensively with Stones co-founder Keith Richards, will fill in.

Watts, who turned 80 in June, recently underwent a “completely successful” medical procedure, according to a statement from the group.

I guess this proves the adage.....do what you enjoy doing, and it won’t be work.

Good for Charlie and the rest of the band.

Mick Jagger is still making kids. One of his wives gave birth to a son in 2016.

I think Ron Wood was diagnosed with cancer a while back.

Ringo playing for the Stones would be considered a betrayal to millions of Beatles fans.

Yeah what surprised me was not his physical shape as much as his mental shape. Of course he is lucky to be alive at that age.

Ringo’s son has been playing with The Who for awhile.

“OMG! They should have asked Ringo! What a blast THAT would’ve been!”

Great idea but Mick would likely not go along. Mick is not one to share the spotlight much. John Popper asked if he could sit in and play a song with the Stones. Mick said “dueling harmonica players? F him”

This is just sad. These guys can't possibly need the money anymore - they really need to stop.

As long as people are willing to pay to see them, why not?

Somewhat wrong. The drummers who claim such injuries are due to their poor posture on the throne, using their arms more than flicking their wrists, bad finger placement, trying to stand out by banging on their kit, bad mixing in their headphone in big venues. Then there are the drugs/alcohol (gout) and living on a bus.

I'm a drummer since 60's and have developed no such problems and neither have the professional studio musicians nor jazz musicians. Stick weight and proper finger placement are also involved. I've owned every type of drum kit from acoustic to Roland E-drums and my wrists and arms and shoulders are fine at 71 years old. Maybe those drummers should have taken up bongos.

Last thought: The 3 types of hand positions when striking are American, German, and French. Rock drummers mostly use American that has a 45 degree angle between the sticks. German is close, but French is parallel as in the sticks line up with each other. Many drummers use the wrong grip for a given strike, where another would work faster, more comfortable, and attenuate the strike.
