August at IU: Back Together Again August—the time when we come together again—is finally here. First, our staff and faculty are coming back soon to be followed by students at all our campuses. We have cause to celebrate at Indiana University as we have already achieved a vaccination rate approaching 85% of all constituents, which provides a strong defense against current and emerging COVID-19 strains. We are coming back in full force with all the normal activities on a college campus.
As we navigate this return to full campus activities, we will need to be nimble to adjust so that everything will remain at full operation. Last week, the CDC and some local officials recommended wearing masks when indoors regardless of vaccine status. Because of this, we are instructing that all IU students, faculty, staff and visitors mask up indoors beginning August 5. This applies to all campuses. We have consistently followed CDC and IDOH guidance throughout the pandemic, and our campuses remain among the safest places to be.
We stress that wearing masks indoors is the only thing that is changing, though. And, this mask guideline pertains to indoors only—the weather is beautiful so let's do everything we can outside. Get out to a football game, attend Regatta, meet up with your friends for an outdoor study session, or head to the basketball courts. Inside, wearing masks will help ensure we can KEEP doing all the normal things on our campuses.
This is a time-limited recommendation; we will continue to monitor local conditions and will make changes to individual campuses based on local data.
Fall at IU; back together again.
IU followed this policy to make sure that enrollment was up (so they wouldn't go broke). Once it was too late for students to go to other colleges, they reneged on the promise that no matter what, students wouldn't be wearing masks.

You mean someone actually lied about COVID?!?!?!
I’m so shocked………
The old bait and switch—time honored con...
They have to lie. Otherwise they cannot manipulate us.
Stupid enough to trust the scorpion ... What else did you expect the scorpion to do?
“which provides a strong defense against current and emerging COVID-19 strains”
The media and other institutions are all over the map concerning this statement. Some say the vaccinated represent a large portion of the delta variant cases. Now we hear the vaccine DOES protect from COVID-19 strains.
No wonder nobody trusts what they hear about this pandemic.
Lying is the new truth.
Slimy Mitch Daniels is IU’s prez.
when you are either a communist or an radical Islam adherent, lying is okay as long as the ends justify the means.
How do you suspect they got the CDC to change their guidance - which IU has been following all along?
unpossible...
I think the principle that “lying is okay as long as the ends justify the means” is pretty much the normal condition of government, politicians, bureaucrats of all sorts, law enforcement, courts, the press, many so-called “Christian” churches, and so on.
I’m not advocating the principle, jut remarking that I think the institutions are rotten and can’t be trusted at all.
It’s not limited to communists an mohamadeans.
No he isn’t . He is with Purdue. Pamela Whitten is IU president.
To be fair, I didn’t trust them.... but I’m a disabled veteran and my disability is exasperated by wearing the mask. Health wise, the last year has been absolutely terrible and not because of Covid. I followed their rules because it meant not wearing a mask in school which would be a significant quality of life improvement.
If they had AIDS, I wouldn’t think they could be vaccinated.
I don’t know, but I notice that no one is touching the third rail of this in explanation.
The Texas Flee Democrats were vaccinated and had a lot of positives. I don’t know what this means either. Were they contagious? Are they still at risk to infection? There is no one who will speak the truth, anymore.
Trump was right, “Fake News” — even when your life and freedoms depend on it. America has been wrong to let its “Press” become what it has.
I think they did it because they ran the risk of tuition dollars running to private colleges.... enrollment is way down at IU. They had no intention of going mask free, but instead lied until students are locked into their college, dorms, and enrolled in courses.
FOLLOW THE MONEY
Well I hope you don’t believe I am advocating it either, because I am not. Just telling you what Democrats, RINOs, and those who support them believe. 🙂
Most people around the world and throughout history have known their leaders and their version of mass media has been almost all liars pushing lies.
Americans have been very naive—but our childhood is over and we need to act like adults.
That means trust no-one and nothing, and do our own homework as best we can in an uncertain world.
Nowhere is it written that talking apes are entitled to know the truth.
Oh, yeah. Bad misinformation on my part!
