I never understood the difference...
...
The difference is mostly in the underlying technology.
A Hearing Aid will be fit by (or the fit will be supervised by) a Doctor of Audiology (AuD or, Audiologist)
The underlying technology allows the Doctor to tailor the frequency response to your particular hearing loss. You won't have amplified sound of everything, you will have tailored sound - specifically for your brain.
In addition, Hearing Aids are normally provided with an extended care plan that will provide regular visits with the Doc so that as your brain adapts to the aid, they can refine the "tuning" and you'll experience a more "normal" sound.
Hearing loss can be serious and lead to balance issues, social isolation and dementia.
If you or a loved one is suffering from hearing loss, mention it to the Doctor, don't just brush it off as "old age."
The difference is mostly in the underlying technology.

So I have them. Got them from Costco. I could have them programmed so I don’t hear freeway noise if the freeway noise bothered me. It doesn’t, so I don’t have them adjusted that way.
They are programmed to block out background noise in a restaurant, so I can focus more on the conversation.
And they do a bunch of stuff, but not the dishes lol.
My hubby wears his all the time. I hate mine hahahahha.
I was losing my higher frequency, so women’s and kids voices. I didn’t want to be saying “Huh??” to my grandkids all the time, so I got them.
We bought some cheap amplifier ones, but they were kind of awful.

Great advice.
Thanks...and thanks for the tips.
I get it. I have severe hearing loss in both ears, whatever that means. I don’t understand the test results.
I have 2 sets of hearing aids from the V.A. - the 2nd set was programmed for targeted noises...
Have 2 other sets I bought online.
I have a set of amplified devices - it’s these that seem to do the most good for me.
