The real pandemic in this fiasco we are living through is the rampant censorship, banning, omitting, blocking, punishing, etc., of opposing views. The biggest culprits being the social media giants, FaceBook, Google, Twitter and YouTube...and their enablers, big government & MSM. Why in the world would you censor presidents, doctors, lawyers, political leaders, scientific data, etc., ... simply because it goes against the government narrative?
If today's social media were alive in the times of Copernicus, they'd be banning the Heliocentric Theory of the universe. Would Ford still be making Edsels if opposing opinions that it was an ugly car had been suppressed? Would slavery have ended, if the opposing view that it was evil had been censored? Would DDT still be on the market, if the opposing view that it was toxic to humans was banned?
Dangerous times when you lose the right to free speech, the right to freely hold and express opposing views.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." (English author Evelyn Beatrice Hall, 1906).
As always, best regards Freepers!
“If today’s social media were alive in the times of Copernicus...”
Thay’d be silent because their tongues would have been cut out.
In today’s world trying to be a sensor is a very difficult task
It almost Has to be a paid position to be sitting in front of a computer trying to look at other peoples speech and then decide whether not to take down
Who the hell in today’s world would ever want to do that in their free time?
Most people would have much better time putting forth their own thoughts and trying to feel important
Twitter is a sewer and it is almost entirely robots
Facebook is mostly for women mature adult women
Instagram is mostly for the 20 something and maybe 30 somethings
The teenagers and younger kids these days I have two of them are all about TickTock
And mostly it’s just kids posting videos of themselves doing stupid crap
Know if the Chinese are trying to spy on kids doing stupid crap let them do that all day long and try to censor it I dare them
The challenge of censorship is the amount of information being posted is so vast and so overwhelming it’s an impossible task to try to keep censoring
Justice William Brennan famously wrote for the court in the celebrated libel law decision New York Times Co. v. Sullivan (1964):
Thus we consider this case against the background of a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust and wide open and that it may well include vehement, caustic and sometimes unpleasantly sharp attacks on government and public officials.
Censorship destroys trust.
if big tech had been around during the age of Galileo the earth would be flat
Congress protects free speech. But on any social platform, owned by any individual or group they can determine what they allow or not.
That’s why it’s wise to stay off social media. If more right minded people did they they’d be starved for customers.
