Narrator: Forty-three percent of Americans say they're too tired to function. So, odds are, you're pretty exhausted. Some mornings, you might even fantasize about staying in bed...forever.

Hey, look, your wish came true! You've got food, a bedpan, and an endless stream of podcasts to binge. Everything you need to never move again. But it won't be long until you realize that you've made a terrible mistake.

“What would happen if you never got out of bed?”

I tried it. Then I got a leg cramp. That catapulted me out of bed like a human slingshot.

While in college, I took a course called "Life in Space". Part of it was looking at studies of how bone and other parts of the human anatomy withered away in low gravity.

To simulate low gravity effects on Earth, they got volunteers to remain as still as possible while lying down in beds 24/7.

When my dad was in his eighties, he had several falls and health problems. I recall a physical therapist in the hospital solidly cuss those lifter armchairs because they made the legs very weak.

All of that appears to be ripped off from a 1952 story in MAD when it was still a comic book.

Damn diuretic my doctor prescribes to slough water off for my heart.

I'm up every hour or two to pee and then try to get back to sleep. Makes for long, restless nights.

I'm exhausted when I get up in the morning.

Excess stored iron causes heart damage. If you eat chocolate or meat, you can prevent having excess iron by removing about 500 ml of blood every two years.

If a person’s blood ferritin is less than 70 ng/ml, he has an iron deficiency.

You want to know what tired is? Be the caregiver for a gravely ill spouse for a couple of years.

Funny guy.

But it's not that funny when you have to get up and visit the toilet every hour or two. You're never really rested.
