In 1946 GI's returning from the war took up arms against corrupt Tennessee Democrats committing vote fraud.

We could learn a lot from these brave men.
That was a really good article. Well written and quite enjoyable. Thanks for posting.
good post. the facts are a corrupt Dem party fraud machine, intent on stealing another election in Athens, TN, was thwarted by the “direct action” of returning WWII veterans (including organizing their own independent slate of candidates and GI poll watchers), and who’d taken a belly full of election abuse from the Dem Sheriff and Deputies in Athens since their return, and stopped them from stuffing ballot boxes and secretly certifying the election in the dead of night at the jail. (my how familiar that all sounds!)
a money quote since now the whole of America is as corrupt as the then powers in Athen’s TN:
As for the larger results of the Athens rebellion, the GIs universally hailed the return of the “independent vote” to the community and the election of “fine people” to lead it.”
the news media of course hasn’t changed:
“The national press continued to show interest in what had happened (the best, if incomplete, account of it at the time was a Harper’s article by Theodore White).”
“Finally, on the first anniversary of the violent election, the Times reported, “Today it appears that this political coalition of World War II veterans for direct action in community affairs, which many at the time regarded as a factor likely to develop nationally in the postwar period, was purely [a] local phenomenon in which veteran participation was incidental.”
right.
These are the events that need to be repeated far and wide. It needs to be sent to every student reading a government publication propaganda history textbook.
I really enjoyed this article. Thanks for posting.
That’s a great story. Inspiring.
That movie is very good. Brad Johnson is one of my favorite actors, although he hasn’t been in many movies.
