The University of Minnesota sent out a letter Monday morning to all students and staff, notifying them that masks will be required indoors on all campuses. The university is citing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance in its latest update last week.
U of M President Joan Gabel sent the letter out.
"Wearing a mask or facial covering indoors has been shown to slow the transmission of COVID-19 and, as we saw as a nation, virtually eliminate other airborne illnesses like the flu. This requirement applies to all of our campuses and offices statewide, whether a given location is in a substantial or high transmission county or not," Gabel stated in the letter, in part.
The guidance goes into effect on campus as of Tuesday. It requires all students, staff, contractors and visitors to wear masks while inside any offices and facilities, regardless of vaccination status. Gabel noted masks or facial coverings are not required outdoors.
"Honestly, I think it's kind of a good idea," Cameron Olsen, a student, told KSTP. "I am sure a lot of college students, with being educated and being more aware about the world, they're definitely going to take it OK more than a lot of people in the United States."
Andrew Seroff, an application developer with the college of education and human development department, says the news doesn't come as a suprise to him.
"I wouldn't call it a surprise, but it definitely cast out into sort of the direction the plan was going in," he said. "Like maybe we're taking a step back. I think we're all a little nervous, but on the other hand, I think we're prepared. We've been through it now so at this point it's not going to feel too jarring."
The university also encourages people to get vaccinated.
"Please note that vaccines are highly effective against the delta variant. We strongly encourage you to 'Get the Vax' today," the letter reads.
At least the ones who want continued State funding will...
Right now, MSU is planning on a "normal" fall semester, with full return to campus of students, full capacity in the classrooms, and full capacity at all MSU venues including Football, Basketball, Hockey, and the performing arts venues.
As of today, I give even odds that MSU and UM will be back to lockdown protocol either prior to, or within one week after the start of Fall Semester.
I remember my freshman writing class. The instructor who dressed and acted ghetto, was a middle age white guy.
He claimed that the statement before each movie that says “This movie is based on a true story” was a foolish thing to say, since all movies are based off of true stories.
Some other student says, “depending on how much drugs a person is onagain. He then walked out, and I never seen him again.
Then next flu season and the next couple years, ADE Antibody dependent enhancement happens and everyone that took the vaccine dies because they have no immune system. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (you should see for yourself this short video is in the crawler at Whatfinger News) Promises No Mandates, No Lockdowns, No Restrictions, and No School ClosuresEqualing reduce population which is their goal. All animals in the trials have died from this exact thing.
I remember a professor who gave a super easy course called “Population”.
This was back in the 1970s.
He had written one of those books that said that the world would have mass starvation due to overpopulation by 1990 or something....
This was the population version of the “hockey stick”.
Everybody in the class knew he was a kook—it was hilarious.
You gave me a laugh that I haven’t had in awhile.
Not only can they not point to any real science behind that statement but they expect us to disbelieve our eyes as I don’t remember thinking “as we saw as a nation” that masks work....to the contrary.
I hate these people....they just make assertions that impact people’s lives without requiring any evidence.
