It’s appropriate to use an unarmed police robot in high-risk situations, primarily because it’s expendable and does not need to deploy deadly force to protect itself.

During felony stops of vehicles it makes sense to have an unarmed robot approach the vehicle, send video back to the cops, ID the occupants, and relay commands to the occupants. That seems preferable to having nervous cops with weapons drawn make the initial approach.

For another example, sending in a swarm of unarmed robots to subdue a barricaded subject means nobody has to die that day.

The real scandal in this story is hidden somewhere in the middle. At least not the CCP.
