Certain principles are just not that hard to grasp or accept — unless you're a leftist.
Even though I studied fundamental economics at the college level, I have found that anyone, yes, anyone, can learn enough about economics, on his own, without college, to tell the difference between common sense and the idiocy that pervades leftist and Marxist ideology.
Let's begin with these commonsense items: you don't get something from nothing. Apart from what nature provides, nothing is truly free. Wealth does not magically appear because someone wished for it, or because someone else promised it. Goods have to be produced, and services have to be provided — by someone with skills, getting up early, taking risks, competing, and working hard. People will produce, but only if they expect to gain some benefit by doing so. (Even volunteers have to eat.)
What about distributing those goods and services? Marxists and leftists propose that goods and services should be forcibly taken from those who produce and given to those who don't. That is not distribution; it is theft. Charity is a necessary virtue, but that virtue is defined by giving one's own money, not someone else's.
Distribution is properly done by people who are willing and able to pay value for value. Supply and demand provide the methods of fair distribution.
Once you understand all that, you know more about economics than do all the leftist economists and Marxists in the world.

Leftists live in an alternate reality that they cling to and refuse to critically examine.
Good article. It’s sad how sensible economics seems dead today, even among conservatives.
The economic strategies of both Bush and Trump admins were Marxist. Pay for everything with massive deficit spending and pretend those bills will never come due.
The problem is unless you can offer as much free stuff as the Dems you can’t get elected.
This article totally misses the point of Marxism.
It is not that Marxists don’t understand economics. They understand just fine.
It is that their agenda is not to maximize peace and prosperity.
They seek crisis, turmoil and division in order to discredit free enterprise and self-governance.
Marxists don’t seek solutions - they want us at each other’s throats so that we will lose faith in our Constitutional Republic forfeit our individual freedoms - and yield power to the “collective”.
But the “collective” is a bullshit abstraction that does not exist in reality. The “collective” is a false promise - a bait-and-switch that masks what Marxism really offers - tyranny.
TRUE! As a divorced mom with 3 under 10, for a decade, you learned what priorities in money were. Pay basic bills first, food, housing, utilities. No safety nets then, couldn’t depend on child support, and $3.50 a hr didn’t go far. Clothes came from rummage sales. Never owned a land line, that was a Luxury.
In Tennessee the Goodwill has a 25% off Saturday for Tax Exempt weekend. It is already crowded with people who never thought to buy used clothing before. Nor use food coupons. Navy base has school supplies and useless electronic items. None made in USA.
Instead of paying back rent these idiots blew it on big screen TV’s, trips to Disney, beaches. Now the price has come due, will create a ton of WHINEY HOMELESS. Car repos are next.
Very well put...
