It's the middle of summer and I'm reminded of the hot summer nights from 1979 when I was 17 years old and just got my driver's license. I was borrowing my father's Newport Chrysler and cruising up and down Revere Beach.
Kelly's Roast Beef had a fried clam plate for $4.95 which was outrageously expensive at the time. Remember that the minimum wage was $2.65 an hour and I was barely making even that. So a Kelly's clam plate was about 2 hours of corralling and pushing shopping carriages at the Cerretani's Supermarket.
But I had a few of them. And this song was playing on the radio as I had all my windows rolled down (and yes, you had to roll them down manually) and occasionally a girl in the passenger seat next to me. This song reminds me of when I had a certain girl in that passenger seat.
Not to be confused with Sausolito Summer Nights, by Diesel.
That was a great summer song as well!
... but today I learned that wasn't the lyric..
Good find.
Lead singer was married to Mutt Lange.
Hot summer night storm clouds in the air
No way, thats Beach Boys redo stuff
Good song. I had forgotten I knew it.
Reminds me of a similar band and song from that era;
“Harden My Heart” by Quarterflash, 1981.
Yep, I got all those bands mixed up back then.
Hot summer night
fell like a net.
About 15 years back I was playing in a band that featured a girl singer. We were looking for material that we could do together (I was really tired of the Angry Lesbian Rock tunes she was doing!) and stumbled upon this tune. It worked out surprisingly well.
My best friend’s family owned the Cyclone.
So I could ride for free. Which I did, many times. It was a very fast wooden roller coaster.
Just a reminder that music used to be good once upon a time.
That's another one of my all-time favorite songs.
