A break in the left-wing indoctrination of the education system may be just what the country needs. I say 'volunteer' for 15 months-infantry. Do this by eliminating all financial aid for 4-year colleges. Then turn community colleges into trade schools on the trimester system-no summers off. In 2 years one can be quite productive.

There’s more. Allow 16 year-olds to take the GED and if they pass they’re free to get started early. Treat them like adults by giving them the vote at age 17 and offering more benefits for a 2 year enlistment.

Give them a $1k IRA upon birth so they can watch it grow for 18 years. Then another couple of thou when their military + trade school is done for. Not too many full-time jobs will be offered a 20 year-old but this will plant the seed for getting on with ones life at an early age.

I enlisted at age 17 1/2. I shoulda been given the right to vote for serving. Others shouldn’t.

I would make a change to the current ROTC program. If you receive either a grant or a loan from the government, you are required to take a ROTC class, but do not participate in the ROTC program. IOW, 4 electives during the course of a BS/BA is required to be ROTC.

No need to wear a uniform or to incur a post graduation commitment. But you do have to attend and be graded on the class. If the class is failed, the requirement remains and must be retaken.

Then structure the ROTC program / classes to cover topics like basic first aid, the draft and call up, ranks and organization of the military, bill of rights, etc.

This will also act to increase the number of retired military personnel that would then be hired by colleges for their ROTC programs.

Yeah, maybe: but only after every General Officer in the services are immediately retired/fired and replaced by what few competent (and normal) colonels that may be around. Otherwise the whole thing will be turned into another "woke" indoctrination session and further wreck our young people.

Further, military service should be restricted to the able-bodied, the willing, and the sane. Everbody else can serve in the Forest Service or hospital emergency rooms or the like.

You are correct but just look at the condition the military is in now. 70% cannot pass the physical/drug tests. Those that qualify need to know ‘volunteering’ judt may be their best deal for the time being.

Also it’s illegal under the slavery amendment. No involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime. It does not list a single exception and it was written AFTER civil war conscription.

He decided that the whole nation volunteered because Congress declared war. His selective service was merely choosing, “selecting” from a giant pool of volunteers!
