Paul tells the inconvenient truth about Simone Biles and her non-performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
Actually, she did the opposite...her withdrawing allowed another gymnast (Jade Carey from Arizona) to take her spot.
Perfect.
Will do
Go Mr. Doodlebob! Excellent post!
Excuse me?! You’d never say anything such cruel words to someone fighting cancer or another disease. She brought it on herself? By doing so much so well under such pressure for so long you mean? By doing things no human has ever done — repeatedly for years in the public eye, after being abandoned as a child and sexually abused?
There is no such thing as “mental” illness. It is excruciatingly physical, and public ignorance about it is similar to previous ignorance about other diseases and illnesses.
I would never wish an illness on anyone, but a small taste of it with you or a family member might give you, if not compassion, perhaps reduce your certainty about something you know nothing about.
Or if she was the reason the team didn’t medal.
She told them that she didn’t want to cost the team a medal by doing something stupid.
Oh give the girl a break for cryin out load. Her accomplishments are beyond remarkable and historical. Either she is injured physically or suffering from a bout of mental illness.
I hope you don’t treat others this way. If you do, then change.
More idiocy. Just stop it.
It’s called ‘choking’
She’s a good gymnast, but she’s not Nadia Comaneci here.
This story has been blown so out of proportion by media jackals.
It began with floor exercises when she didn’t just step out of bounds but went clear off the mat and onto the floor. Naming herself the greatest of all time is ego talk. Sorry, Simone, you’re on a team so it’s not all about yourself. She’s always had an attitude. Glad to see her gone.
Hilarious she was replaced by a white lady.
My 2 cents!
Simone quit......for whatever reason.
Fine.....she needs to go home......take the spotlight off herself....
....
....and let the 17 yr old gold medal swimmer from Alaska and others have their day in the sun!
“I’ve got blisters on my fingers!”
Have you ever held a cup of water straight out from your body for any length of time? It’s easy. As long as you don’t have to hold it for more than a few minutes. Please try it.
It will give you an infinitesimal idea of what happens when an almost super-human young woman reaches a point where she is no longer super-human.
You have obviously never been at the mercy of a body that would not do what you wanted it to (regardless of what it looks like to the rest of the world), never had an invisible illness, and never been treated like a bought-and-paid-for piece of performing meat.

Yep. I bet she has a book deal all lined up.
She has competed with broken toes and kidney stones. She has done things that no other gymnast even attempts for many, many years. Her bona fides are unassailable.
The things you do fearlessly in your childhood and teens get more fraught with some age and experience. If you lose the focus she has always displayed, then there is a real risk of real life-changing injury.
“Oh, this body. It starts when I wake up. I can tell you almost straight away if it is cold or not because my bones will shake. I joke to my friends a lot that I am going to be in a wheelchair at 30.”
When an athlete is at that level, with ability and training being so similar that the difference between winning and losing is hundredths of a point, then the mental game is the game-changer. I would think that a woman who has spent her life performing above expectations might be able to figure out better than casual observers what she’s capable of.
I don’t understand why it’s so hard to extend another person a little grace.
She didn’t complain about losing. She asked only what we conservatives say we want - for everyone to be judged by the same standard.
In addition - having never been treated like a bought-and-paid-for piece of performing meat, expected only “to serve this ship” (Ben Hur, in case you miss the reference), you expose an all-too-common ignorance of human illness.
You’d never say anything such cruel words to someone fighting cancer or another disease. By doing so much so well under such pressure for so long, doing things no human has ever done — repeatedly for years in the public eye, after being abandoned as a child and sexually abused, and you’re calling her a wimp?

I would like to co-sign.
Agreed. She didn’t suddenly realize what she was doing was POTENTIALLY dangerous. And gymnastics is not a very dangerous sport. You’re more likely to die riding horses cross country than gymnastics. And she could always just reduce the difficulty of her routine, if that was the cause.
Nope. She choked. She went into the Olympics boasting about being the GREATEST OF AL TIME (GOAT) - and her nerve broke. Like a lot of elite sports, no matter your physical skills, if your nerve breaks, you are done.
She was just going to look bad in this Olympics, so she quit. And made excuses. Nothing admirable about it.
At the bottom of all it is this: She started believing her own press. And it bit her in the butt.
I think Biles represents the downfall of everything Olympic. It has become a “profession” of many who train like professionals from a very young age, and receive great financial benefits too. Gymnastics these days is grueling at her level, tho. I competed in HS gymnastics 50+ years ago and have watched the sport turn into death defying acrobatics. It is sad she mentally couldn’t handle it, but I try to remember what being age 24 was like and how immature I could be. Maybe Her coaches could have helped her bow out better, but they can’t control her at this stage. And, then there is her family/personal history, which sometimes starts to create a ruckus emotionally in your 20s.
