This I find interesting because one of the specifications for Interstates includes requirements that would allow for strategic bombers (and thus other aircraft) to operate on them as run ways.
The reasoning for putting this specs in during the 1950s was to prevent the Commies from targeting airfields as any stretch of highway in the US could become a makeshift airfield.
Thanks for your input. I find it interesting that even thought the interstates were designed for this, decades ago, this is the first time they have been used for this type of exercise. At least that is what the article says.
