We should let the Democrats own their legacy of secession and slavery. The Republican party was created by Christian abolitionists. It's not a regional association (i.e. because we're southerners we're confederates). It's an ideological association and the Democrats are still ideological obsessed with their belief that the races are unequal. Don't let the Dims trick you into wearing their symbol of the racial oppression that they're guilty of. Don't let the Dims trick you into protecting their statues of their Democrat confederate heroes. We are Christians first and one of the most chest thumping worthy events in Christian history is when the Second Great Awakening succeeded in freeing the slaves from the Democrats and their "scientific racism" (the phrase they used then for what today we call "Darwinism").
If us Alabamians can still talk about Bama winning the 1993 Sugar Bowl and winning the 1992 national championship over the loud mouthed #1 Miami Hurricanes, then us Christians ought to be able to loudly proclaim our side won the argument over Democrats and slavery. I have family who moved to Florida, raised kids there, and taught their kids, who never lived in Alabama, to be die hard Bama fans. That's because to them it's not about their local region (Florida). It's about who they've always been. They'll be the last ones to wear a Miami Hurricanes cap when Miami plays Bama in the season opener this year.
Are us Christians in the south going to keep wearing the Democrats' battle flag? That battle flag represents the losers in the Second Great Awakening's win over slavery.
You have bought in to every Massachsetts argument about the causes of the war. The Christians like Stone wall Jackson, Pat Cleburne, and Robert E. Lee knew the South’s economy was being unfairly pilfered by the North. Men like William Wilberforce made the moral case against slavery but what to do wth all those slaves whose trade brought northern profits. The answer was a gradual transition from slave to wage slave (like me). Instead the war destroyed a generation of our best men and led to the Yankee/communist/Godless country the USA is becoming. Scalawags like you think Reconstruction excesses were a just punishment for the South but now the whole nation totters on the abyss. As ex-Confederate general ubal Early said, “What a gentle institution slavery must have been to so well prepared the Negro for the ballot box”.
