I came out of that place stronger, saner and felt like I could do or kill anything. In fact I went back to deploying there for years with Blackwater and their iterations.
Today, in my 50s, I MAX the Army pushups twice a week (100 reps under 2 mins) and MAX the old Marine requirements for pull-ups (21). That's in addition to out-running 20 years olds, doing full gym workouts and biking. I nearly never get sick - not even now with 2 COVID positive people in my house.
I've heard all there is to hear about Gulf War syndrome, and it's all nothing but a bunch of utter BULLSHIT.

I had the anthrax shot in excess. Started the sequence, then was transferred and told I no longer needed it. Then transferred again, and they restarted me from the beginning. Ended up with 8 shots of the anthrax vaccine.
If I have had any ill effects from it, I don’t know it. Took the Trump vaccine and had no issues. OTOH, my wife got a shot for shingles and had swelling and joint pain for the next 6 months. That is why she refuses to take the Trump vaccine.
My wife was put on stains. Within weeks, she couldn’t raise her arm above her shoulder. She insisted on stopping and, over a period of YEARS, got full movement of her arms back.
I accept SOME people have bad reactions to medicines or vaccines. Hard to predict. I reject the idea that the anthrax vaccine (or the Trump vaccine) are automatically dangerous. It is just silly.

Knew a SGT who after he got back from GW1 couldn’t climb stairs without pulling himself up by his arms. Very weak and grossly fatigued. They boarded him out on failing PT test.
