CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Cary couple is mystified by their current situation. Joy McGrael and her husband, Brent Eischen, are both sick and dealing with COVID-19, even though they're both fully vaccinated.
"I was definitely shocked and disappointed. I was like 'Darn, I thought I'm doing everything right,'" McGrael said.
She has a cough, can't smell or taste.
"I keep going around and picking up candles and seeing if I can smell them," McGrael said.
Eischen got COVID first last week.
"I was just shocked -- thought I was one of these unlucky people," he said.
The couple took cautions to stay safe and even began living on separate floors.
McGrael, a mom to three adult children, bought a bunch of at-home testing kits. She was using them daily and they were coming back negative.
She flew to the West Coast for work and continued getting daily tests there. The results were the same: negative.
Not long after returning home, she started feeling sick.
"Two breakthroughs in one household, I mean ... wow, really? (That was) not what I thought would happen," said McGrael.
Both still say they're happy they got vaccinated and encourage others to do the same.

I've read screeds saying THIS is why everyone must get vaccinated. The unvaxed are infecting the vaxed.
People are confusing vaccination with herd immunity. They think their vaccines will only work if other people get vaxed.
That's not odd. These sorts of idiots are bound to be the type so woke the woman won't even take the man's last name. Let's hope natural selection has its day and they all die off.
Home test kits - daily.
Maybe they made her sick.
Were they the nose jab? That might introduce virus, or damage nose lining.
Or maybe a saliva?
And held accountable means going to prison for many years, as in 20 minimum. Some need to be in prison for life.
They still are saying those who get the shot won’t need hospitalization yet this hospital’s covid patients are all vaccinated. Over and over., again and again, they are just admitting they don’t know ....and they don’t know what they’re doing.
Idiots.
You mean like 2019?
If their vax is not keeping them from getting Covid, then why are they thinking that other people’s vaxxes are going to keep those other people from getting Covid?
Why are they trusting other people’s vaxxes to work when they don’t trust their own to?
Honestly, critical thinking skills are so lacking in these people, which is actually a necessity to keep this narrative going.

Not sure when exactly it officially arrived, but the dystopia is here. It ain’t going away.
On the way to work I was accidentally listening to NPR. Sometimes their signal crosses over to another radio station that I often listen to.
Anyway, they were reporting that the cases for the delta variant of COVID has exploded . . . and then added mostly in areas where there were lower vaccinated percentage of the population.
They are such liars, and demonize those who choose not to get a vaccine.
Peak clown world.
Except all the animals died in the mRNA tests.
It was man-made. It’s not naturally-occurring.
The creator of the PCR test said it shouldn’t be used for COVID.
The guy ended up dead.
