Last Wednesday my wife was complaining of a sore throat and headache. I'd been having trouble sleeping due to my ongoing sinus issues and hadn't really paid much attention to my own headache, but I did notice that my joints were aching, along with some other uncharacteristic pains (gonad, among them). The next day, I noticed my left tonsil (only) was sore, the opposite side of my sinus issues (not related to post nasal drip). Hearing her complaints, the sore throat/headache continued through Friday in me as well.
Saturday morning, I awoke with a partially plugged right ear after an atrocious night of major sinus issues (runny nose, which at the time I attributed to a bad reaction to lunch). My balance was off and my head felt like I was swimming in mud. Turns out that my wife felt the same.
Sunday I felt better and, since I'd committed by defrosting/brining it, set about making Cajun turkey & rice. In the process I put away the seasonings I'd purchased the day prior and mixed up my seasonings/rub for the turkey.
I discovered later - much to my wife's chagrin - that I'd put the bag of organic cayenne into the smoked paprika cannister. Turkey & rice came out GREAT, albeit too hot for my wife.
This morning I made my typical eggs & toast, topped with oak smoked fresh ground pepper. What made me think through the last week were 2 things in particular:
1. In hindsight, I hadn't really paid attention to the fact that I couldn't taste my breakfast on Saturday. 2. I mixed up the smoked paprika & cayenne primarily due to my failure to read my written tag (the colors were nearly identical), but because I couldn't smell the former.
After a flavor explosion with this morning's breakfast - in stark contrast to Saturday - I smelled the smoked paprika: There's no way I could mix them up today, as the aroma was detected IMMEDIATELY upon opening the container.
We had the virus March 14, 2020. 48 hour illness for the wife, 72 for me (my own damned fault; read here if interested https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3831003/posts).
Neither of us noticed loss of taste (felt too bad). There was no such symptom after the fever broke. If there was, it certainly didn’t take a month.
I’ve read many different accounts of recovery time for the symptoms. The most telling result for me is similar to what people have reported after getting their experimental jab: Never felt better, persistent aches & pains GONE. I’ve never had a no-fever illness which caused such a weird spate of symptoms. That’s ME today: I arose early without my alarm and feel amazing.
I have zero faith in the tests and NO ONE is offering antibody tests here (I tried to get one and failed). I figured that they didn’t want people to know that they might have natural immunity and brook that logical argument against getting the jabs. Go figure, right?
I wasn’t just told that they weren’t available, I was stonewalled.
This illness was the first EITHER of us had since 3/2020. And it wasn’t allergies: I cured mine, but I regret not taking my temperature on Saturday.
It’s a curiosity which will remain unresolved.
Lifetime of seasonal allergies until I cured them, NEVER had a single event/illness causing loss of taste/smell like I experienced this weekend.
As I commented a few minutes ago, it’s to remain a curiosity & unresolved, but appreciate the feedback.
I had the Swine Flu and that hell lasted 6 weeks so I think I have the antibodies for this Rona crap As MC hammer says “ Ya can’t touch this”
Who knows? I don’t. It maybe more or maybe less.
Time will tell.
