Trump says ‘woke politics’ contributed to US women’s soccer upset at Olympics

Former President Donald Trump says “woke politics” contributed to the US Women’s soccer team’s dismal opening performance in the Tokyo Olympics.

“The US Women’s Soccer team is a very good example of what’s going on,” Trump told a crowd during a campaign-style rally in Arkansas on Saturday night.

“Woke politics takes the life and joy out of everything. Woke-ism makes you lose, ruins your mind and ruins you as a person. You become warped. You become demented​,” he said during the speech to the Turning Point Action​ political action committee in Phoenix.​​

“Earlier this week, [the women’s team] unexpectedly lost to Sweden, three to nothing, and Americans were happy about it​,” Trump told the crowd, who responded by cheering.

“You proved that point before I even said it​,” Trump added to the audience, shaking his head.

The US Women’s team, favored to win a gold medal in Tokyo and ranked No. 1 in the world, has traveled down a rocky road so far in the Olympic Games.

The team — known for some members’ protests against racism, including by kneeling during the National Anthem — started off with a stunning 3-0 loss to Sweden. It rebounded with a 6-1 win over New Zealand on Saturday.

During his Arizona speech, Trump also doubled-down against the Cleveland Indians changing their name to the Cleveland Guardians.

“The Cleveland Indians will be changing their name, a name that was filled with history and memories. The new name will be the Cleveland Guardians, which is terrible​,” he told the crowd.

“If I were a [Native American], I’d sue,” the former president said.

When you fly over flyover country, there are no actual lines on the ground to distinguish one state from another. So New Yorkers and Californians have to guess which place they are flying over.

Remember, Hillary Clinton couldn't even find Wisconsin in 2016, and she grew up about 40 miles due south of the Illinois-Wisconsin border.

Just gotta remember - those are youngsters. They hadn't had time to develop any political sophistication or experienced worldview yet, like you or I have. They were thrown right into the middle of a mess they didn't ask for, so they made decisions, picked a direction and went with it the best they could. I respect them for that. At least they were trying to do some thinking when no one else was.

They are a nasty collection of women to be sure but they are also damn good at soccer and despite a slow start will likely still win gold.
I can’t watch it as long as that purple haired little troll is on the team.
It’s a shame because I used to enjoy it and think the world of the beautiful and talented Alex Morgan.
She’s hetero and just had her first child. But alas, one good apple cannot restore a bucket filled with rotten ones back to respectability.

Mainly, age contributed to the 3-0 loss to Sweden. Remember that Sweden is very good. They were the runners up in the last World Cup. They bounced the U.S. out of the last Olympics. They played the U.S. to a draw earlier this year. If Olympic or World Cup soccer was played NBANHLMLB style, best of seven, the U.S. would probably beat Sweden 4-2, but on any given day Sweden is perfectly capable of winning.

I think your explanations about the USWNT are interesting...I agree indeed that US players are getting too old...

About President Trump...I understand that he is still unhappy about disrespect displayed towards him from some USWNT members...He invited them to visit the White House...But, the visit never took place...Coach Jill Ellis stated that nobody from Trump White House called her about a visit...

It is possible that USWNT may end up winning Gold after all...Some team members could try to motivate others by mentioning that fact that President Trump mentioned the team during his speech...Let's win Gold and prove that Trump is wrong about the team being weak...I could imagine Megan Rapinoe try to motivate her teammates by stating that...

I was driving around on Sunday...ABC radio news mentioned that Mr. Trump mentioned USWNT in his speech...He mentioned the team and it received the publicity...

Maybe President Trump should have ignored USWNT? I do not think that he wants USWNT to do well...But, he might motivate the team to win Gold by mocking them...

About Megan Rapinoe...Many FR members really dislike her...I am not her fan although I have to state that she is a good player...However, I do not dislike her as much as other people do on FR...I think that we should all remember that she is a just soccer player...Not some elected official like Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden...Megan Rapinoe cannot pass or implement a law making Americans worse off...Unlike Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden...
