In the 70’s, my in-laws would drive to Mexico from Wisconsin in their big old ‘Woodie’ Station Wagon and then drive all over Mexico to see the sights. Never any problems. They always came back alive, LOL!
I’ve vacationed in MX half a dozen times. Last time was in the early 90’s. You couldn’t PAY me to step foot in that country ever again.
And that’s sad, because there’s a lot of history there, and it’s quite beautiful, and the ocean view is just spectacular from so many places. :(
My sister and brother-in-law are flaming liberals, always vacationed in Mexico in the '90s, just gushed about their experiences and finally bought a second home in San Felipe in Baja.
They could never figure why, and sometimes mocked my "racism" because I'd always take the family up to Canada on grand tours. "Why drive thousands of miles (we lived in Oceanside, CA) when you can drive a couple of hundred to our place and enjoy it's vibrant culture?". Told them that when I was in Canada, I never felt like I had a bullseye between my shoulder blades, which ruffled their feathers and resulted in the "Oh you Conservatives are SO racist!" charge.
Around the year 2000, something happened and they sold the place in San Felipe at a loss and never went back nor ever spoke of the place again. When when I asked what happened, I never got a straight answer or was sloughed off.
Methinks Reality reared its ugly head.
