Thomas Barrack, a Trump ally, released on $250,000,000 bail

This isn’t about the rule of law; this is ensuring that people are too frightened to work with Trump or any Republican ever again.

There are so many things wrong with the story of Thomas Barrack that it’s hard to know where to begin. Briefly, Biden’s DOJ charged Thomas Barrack, the man who chaired Trump’s inaugural fund, with illegal lobbying for the UAE. Then, for the 74-year-old Barrack to get out of jail, a federal magistrate imposed a $250,000,000 bail on him, along with other serious restrictions on travel. This is a travesty of justice and a clear threat to Trump allies, past, present, and future.

As always, the Daily Mail has a good summary:

Donald Trump‘s billionaire ally Thomas Barrack is being released on $250 million bond after being charged with illegally lobbying the Trump administration on behalf of the United Arab Emirates.

The 74-year-old reached a deal with prosecutors on Friday that will see him released from custody while he awaits trial on charges of illegal lobbying.

A federal magistrate judge in Los Angeles signed off on the conditions of the agreement, which will include surrendering his passport, complying with a curfew, and wearing an ankle bracelet with GPS monitoring.

If the code you cite is written in cursive, and this is an Obama judge, the explanation is clear to see.

It's the 8th amendment of the US Constitution. So of course an Obama judge wouldn't be familiar with it. Actually more and more I think most federal judges from either side of the aisle have never read it.

Wish they’d put a $250MM bail on me. My reputation would skyrocket!

Ensuring that people are too frightened to work with Trump or any Republican ever again.

Misjudging people come at a very high cost that lasts for a very long time.
Headstone for democrat party is now being carved.

I doubt that he had to come up with that amount of money. More likely, he signed a Bond agreeing that if he fails to appear for trial he will forfeit $250 million to the government. Other than the fact that he is a billionaire and could be a flight risk, not sure why there is such a high Bond for a non-violent crime. Most likely because of his connection to President Trump.

Thanks.

But how does he convert that wealth to a bond that the court will accept?

I don’t have any experience with bail bonds, but I have seen every episode of Law and Order.

Is the judge really that crooked?

The message is clear. If you are any ally of Trump (or insert any MAGA candidate), then you are in danger. Grand juries can indict a ham sandwich. Once charged, you will get excessive bail, which most can't afford, or no bail. That means you end up in solitary just like all the 1/6 folks.

On the other hand, if you are on the left and burn, loot and murder, you are immediately released, are not charged, and you can go about destroying the country.

See tag line.

Not sure of the details, but I believe you normally “only” have to come up with 10% of the bail. So he would “only” have to come up with $25,000,000. He would probably have no problem coming up with that much money.

“A federal magistrate judge in Los Angeles signed off on the conditions of the agreement, which will include surrendering his passport, complying with a curfew, and wearing an ankle bracelet with GPS monitoring.”

A 74 YO billionaire is gonna go where.... on a cruise?

Curfew? No late night Bingo or Casino action for you.

Ankle bracelet? Really.... see numbers 1 and 2.

Constitution be damned with these people. Only one effective way to deal with tyrants.
