That was my first thought, too. This guy lost an opportunity to beat up on one of the Joooos.

However, the article states the Israeli judoka is more accomplished. The Algerian probably feared that if he lost to an Israeli, as expected, he might get beheaded upon his return to his home country.

Islam being a religion of peace and all. /s
