This is a lifetime dream for many of these athletes. They've know for a while that this bug could screw things up...I bet many got the shots, despite the potential to impact their short-term training and long term health.
And it could all land in the lumberyard anyway.
The comparison is worth mentioning: the 1972 Munich Games continued after that tragedy, but they'd shut these games down for a bug that has a survival rate between 99.99% and 99.87% for the likely age bracket of these athletes.
And if they exclude so many athletes for getting COVID, it’s pretty much going to mean that a lot of Gold Medals will come with an asterisk, because they didn’t face the best competition.
