$250 million? This is appalling, a rejection of any sense of proportion. This is Soviet-style stuff. $250 MILLION for allegedly not registering as a lobbyist for a foreign government? This is madness.

74 years old? If he had any sense, he would have a beer with Snowden and never come back.

TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLAR BOND!!! That is ridiculous. His ONLY crime was being a Trump friend. These are dangerous times. They want a war and they want us dead.

Different guy. You may be thinking of Weisserman who had perks that didn’t get declared as income. This guy is accused of violating the “Hatch Act” by promoting some interest of the UAE. The charges are ridiculous.

Yeah. Usually mass murder is what…2, 3, …5 million.?

Unregistered foreign agent for the UAE …250 million? Apparently, bail at 10, 25, 50, 150 million is too low to ensure the defendant appears in court?

Well, these are the same people that think 6 Jan 2021 is the worst event in US history since the Civil War or World War II. So, excessive bail is, in some ways, not surprising. Since these cases are thought to be a pathway to wounding Trump fatally, the size of the bail is, in a way, a measure of how much they fear the Orange Man.

$250 million bond!!!?

It’s because his former association with Trump that he gets punished.

Now that a gulag has been created for those involved in the January 6 entry of the Capitol, Trump’s friends and associates had better be careful of what they say and do in the future. And this includes FReepers sympathetic to Trump.
Will they ever try to find an excuse to arrest Trump rally attendees?

Isn’t there some Constitutional thing about excessive bail?

They don’t fear Trump at all. They wouldn’t be abusing Trump supporters if they feared any consequences. For FIVE YEARS now Dems have had the green light from the GOP to assault Trump supporters at their leisure. The targeting of Barrack is the fruit of a fully bipartisan coup.

I have to respectfully disagree.

What Democrats fear about Trump is: 1) his continuing ability to mobilize large blocks of voters to support candidates he endorses (think 2022 and beyond) and 2) his potential return to power in 2024.

The on-going efforts for auditing the 2020 presidential election are valiant and may yet yield actionable results meriting a reversal of the results. But considering the actions needed to reverse the result and a realistic timeline (taking into account the majestically ponderous pace of government action in controversial issues), it would be 2023 at the earliest before DJT might be PDJT again. He’s not going to be willing to go through all that for only half a term.

On the his possible return to power, the Democrats are trying to convict him on something, anything, that will constitutionally bar him from holding any federal office in the future. That was the whole rationale for impeaching him after he left office earlier this year and is the motivation now for the 6 Jan 2021 kangaroo investigation Pelosi is grimly assembling.

The Democrats want to get this done before their expected loss of control of Congress in the 2022 mid-term elections.
