Since these cases are thought to be a pathway to wounding Trump fatally, the size of the bail is, in a way, a measure of how much they fear the Orange Man.
They don’t fear Trump at all. They wouldn’t be abusing Trump supporters if they feared any consequences. For FIVE YEARS now Dems have had the green light from the GOP to assault Trump supporters at their leisure. The targeting of Barrack is the fruit of a fully bipartisan coup.
I have to respectfully disagree.
What Democrats fear about Trump is: 1) his continuing ability to mobilize large blocks of voters to support candidates he endorses (think 2022 and beyond) and 2) his potential return to power in 2024.
The on-going efforts for auditing the 2020 presidential election are valiant and may yet yield actionable results meriting a reversal of the results. But considering the actions needed to reverse the result and a realistic timeline (taking into account the majestically ponderous pace of government action in controversial issues), it would be 2023 at the earliest before DJT might be PDJT again. He’s not going to be willing to go through all that for only half a term.
On the his possible return to power, the Democrats are trying to convict him on something, anything, that will constitutionally bar him from holding any federal office in the future. That was the whole rationale for impeaching him after he left office earlier this year and is the motivation now for the 6 Jan 2021 kangaroo investigation Pelosi is grimly assembling.
The Democrats want to get this done before their expected loss of control of Congress in the 2022 mid-term elections.
