From my understanding the antibody tests were deemed to be error prone.

You might be thinking of the PCR tests. Those ARE wildly inacurate. Antibody tests actually work well from what I've read.

Correct-the PCR is not accurate especially when cycled at around 40 or more. And antibody tests are more accurate. However, antibodies fade so that test is insufficient. T cells are the important indicator after the antibodies have been reduced.

Immune cells called T cells also helped prevent reinfection and may be especially important if antibody levels are low or decline over time.

Yeah - I know about the PCR test reliability but the CDC issued this a few months back:
