What we know about vaccines in general is no vaccine and no naturally acquired immunity is guaranteed 100% effective all the time every time in every individual at every age and health bracket. With a 98% effective vaccine, 2% will be outliers.
What we know about Israel in particular is, to quote the WaPo the 85% adult fully vaccinated population is “five times the unvaccinated” population. So the unvaccinated population is very small as a percentage of the population.
Say I have 20 beans and 5 are blue; that’s 20% of the total. But if I have 100 beans and 5 are blue that’s 5% of the total. So when you read that 15 vaccinated and 5 unvaccinated died, it doesn’t mean that vaccinated are dying at a higher rate than unvaccinated - the reverse is true - the group of vaccinated is 5 times larger, so 15 is a lower percentage of the total vaccined group than 5 is as a percentage of the unvaccinated group. The unvaccinated are still dying at a higher rate.
Israel has 12 people on ventilator, only 3 are vaccinated. Admissions to ICU are 1/20th the rate of the pre-vax rate and the Times of Israel reported today that the length of stay is down 34% from 12 days to 8 days. The overall death rate in Israel is currently 1.6%, down from 4% pre-vax. The Health Ministry reports only 144 hospitalizations as of today, Wednesday (and half are quarantined mild cases or covid cases with non-related issues). Hamodia posted today that 150 new cases of Delta were returning from other countries. ( A year ago, they had an article that a similar number of travelers accounted for over 80% of new covid cases.)
Unless something changes, Israel’s numbers prove that existing vaccines are having a significant impact on disease progression to hospitization stage and on final outcome even against faster replicating variants. And that is a very good thing.
ok, that is all logical, no vaccine is 100% effective.
But this reality added to the vaccine-related deaths is the argument for therapeutics in the low-risk demographics, rather than the wholesale application of experimental gene therapy to an entire population.
But because emergency use authorization has eliminated any discussion of therapeutics, “vaccination” has become a zero-sum game. This situation has so severely distorted the medical term of art termed “indications” that it is not even relevant anymore.
