They might allow you to volunteer to pass out free teddy bears and diapers to the illegal alien invaders, but no way in hell will they let you try to actually protect the country from the same invaders,.

Even when the National Guard is deployed along the border, all they are allowed to do is administrative tasks, provide transportation, meals and shelter to the illegals, and occasionally some of them are allowed to do surveillance.... But NOT any sort of enforcement

I am unfortunately a city boy. Who is willing to volunteer to be the first Henry Bowman?

If you want to get technical about it, militias are at the state level and under direction of the governor.

For one things were different back then, Border Patrol did not have anything close to what we have now in terms of technology and fencing. We have cameras, drones, radar trucks, sensors etc, yes we had some of those things back then but we now have more and the tech is better.

There are still groups that come out to the border at times, but to be honest they are a hindrance and not a help. For one at night the camera or sensors can’t tell the difference between someone who is in the country illegally and someone who is conducting a citizens patrol, so we waste man power looking for people who are not here illegally.

Of course we don’t know who is just a concerned citizen and who is a nut job that may harm someone. I understand that some people are frustrated with the situation at the border but any good intentioned citizen trying to help is only going to make our job more difficult and possibly end up in legal trouble or is going to get sued.

If someone wants to help the best thing to do is get a job with the border patrol or vote and be political active.

They were ridiculed out of existence, basically.

Of course, the “professional law enforcement apparatus” shamed and mocked them. You know the types that can barley hit the broad side of a barn.

Good advice....unless the governor of TX, AZ or NM ask for civilian help....best to stay away. Nice patriotic idea though.

1) Buy deer stands and put them up every 1/4 mile.
2) Allow retired gun owners to man them using their own guns and ammo (for personal protection)
3) Provide IR binoculars, night vision scopes and 2-way radios to notify BP of aliens.
3) Deputize them if need be
4) Have 12 hour shifts with sandwiches and cold water.

I am retired and ready to go. I have my rifles sighted in from my last prairie dog trip.
