The Tweet from Sir Patrick Vallance, UK Science Chief yesterday says:
“Correcting a statistic I gave at the press conference today, 19 July. About 60% of hospitalisations from covid are not from double vaccinated people, rather 60% of hospitalisations from covid are currently from unvaccinated people.”
Well, that’s re-assuring. That means 40% of those hospitalized ARE vaccinated people....
40% vaccinated in the UK and only 1% here? Somebody be lying.
Actually, it is somewhat re-assuring. In the age groups most likely to be hospitalized (age 65+) about 92% have been vaccinated. In other words, only 8% have NOT been vaccinated, but the unvaccinated are 60% of the hospitalized, so people are 7.5 times more likely to be hospitalized if they have not been vaccinated.
Of course, the actual difference in probability of hospitalization is probably lower because people from the younger age groups may also be hospitalized, and the younger age groups are less vaccinated.
