Some store-brand potato chips are every bit as good as the name brands, at half the price. But I've never had a substitute Frito corn chip that was nearly as good.
It must be that ‘secret ingredient’ that they use......................
Same goes for Cheetos. Off brand cheese puffs/curls are terrible with the exception of a brand or two that aren’t even trying to be the same flavor (like some fancy blue cheese ones someone used to have). Or at least, they used to all be terrible. I don’t do as much of that kind of snacking as I did in my college days.
Agreed but Wise's Corn Chips are awesome in their own way, particularly as a base for chili. Also substantially fewer hilum (black) spots than Frito's.
Fritos are good... personally I like the lime Fritos.
If you eat the competitive corn chip with anything like bean dip, chili, on a hamburger, etc I doubt many can tell the difference in the taste. So it is silly to pay the significant premium for the Frito brand name.
But the Frito brand corn chip, right out of the bag mixed with nothing else is notably better.
