Hitchcock apparently was a fan of this author. Never saw the movie, but the book “Jamaica Inn” was another good one. This author liked to play with the reader: She would mislead the reader and then twist the whole story around.

“You mean the lead wasn’t a Person of Color?”

Maybe not, but certainly a trannie. How could they pass up such an opportunity?

So that’s what Tywin Lannister looked like in his younger days.

Tried to watch the newest version with Lily James and Armi Hammer. Unwatchable. Talk about wooden actors!

The other actresses do not look the part as the original.
Like the actors in the 1966 remake of the John Wayne film ‘Stagecoach’ which was repeated recently. It starred all the wrong people.

When I was in 6th grade, we had a book fair. I was a poor kid, so while all the rich kids were running around with fists full of cash, I had a whole quarter, which my dad reluctantly gave me.

I was determined to get the most book for my quarter and my teacher was very discerning and recognized my sad state of affairs and took pity on me. Having observed that I was an advanced reader for my age, she recommended Rebecca and that is what I bought with my quarter.

I loved that book! It broke my heart but it was so powerfully written and I was just sucked into the story. I knew what it was like to be a common misfit among the elite.

Have only seen the B&W movie so interested in this - thank you!

“Before Tarzan and the Ape Man (1932)... Hmmm... Greatest nude scene ever...”

You’re thinking of Maureen O’Sullivan (who, BTW, was Mia Farrow’s mother).

"You’re thinking of Maureen O’Sullivan..."

Just a mental slip...

When you are born in 1933, you (a man) will spend most of your life remembering/thinking about Maureen O'Sullivan...or Hedy Lamar...or Rita Hayworth...or Carole Lombard...or Ingrid Bergman...or Ginger Rogers...or ...

Well, I’m 70, and I remember all of them (and more), with great fondness. One of the most beautiful women I ever saw on film was Greta Garbo. One of my favorites, in a pixie-ish sort of way, was Claudette Colbert.

Greta Garbo...Claudette Colbert...Rosalind Russell...Marlene Dietrich...Fay Wray (1933 - Best King Kong)...Angela Lansbury (1940’s)...Lucille Ball (1930’s)...Katherine Hepburn...Barbara Stanwyck (1930’s)...Etc...Etc...Etc...

If I hadn’t junked my VHS player many years ago, I could re-watch some of the dozens of VHS tapes I purchased through TCM...

During the 1990’s, the only things I collected more valuable than those vids were ammo & guns...
