Even BLM wouldn’t go to Polk Co. TN.

We moved to this area, just outside of Polk Co., when I was a young teenager of 14 in the late 60’s.

Black people had been hung in Polk Co. for years before that just for being there after dark. They were found swinging from trees, under bridges, you name it.

There was a billboard as you entered the County that said “N****r, don’t let the sun set on your a** here”. I think, but I’m not sure, at that time the County was heavily Democrat. That sign was there for several years. It finally came down and there are some black families living there now but they didn’t grow up in the area.

It’s safe for black people now but this poor man is still lucky he survived being in jail there for three years especially for being accused of raping a white woman. I love Tennessee but even I rarely venture into Polk Co. and I’m white.

There are a lot of good people there now so sorry if I offended anybody that might live there. It does have a terrible racist past.

Makes me feel better that the great-great-grandparents decided to move west from there back in 1854. Put the Mason-Dixon Line and Mississippi River to their back and never looked behind.
