The notorious Black Dahlia murder in Los Angeles in 1947 is arguably the most gruesome of America's cold cases ever.
The body of aspiring starlet Elizabeth Short was found beside a sidewalk in a vacant lot in a southern Los Angeles suburb and shocked even the most hardened newspaper crime reporters.

Don’t know. His son tried to make that case after learning from his sister that their dad was a suspect and had a file.
But he also thinks his dad was the Zodiac killer
And THIS was a weird story about eh Zodiac killer that most people haven’t heard. There was a movie made about him while the crimes were still occurring to try to lure him to the theater.

In a 2012 interview and again in a 2017 interview, Hanson stated that the production of the film was motivated by an elaborate plot to catch the killer, who Hanson reasoned would not be able to resist attending the film’s premier.[1][2]

The opening night screening took place at San Francisco’s RKO Golden Gate Theater on April 7, 1971. Audience members were asked to write their answers to “I think the Zodiac kills because ...” and drop their entries into a large box in order to enter a raffle to win a motorcycle donated by Kawasaki. The unsuspecting filmgoers didn’t know that there was a volunteer crouched inside the box comparing their handwriting with samples of the Zodiac’s, and that there were goons (including members of the film’s cast) waiting in the wings ready to apprehend and interrogate anyone whose penmanship raised a red flag. ...TOS: Meanwhile, those yellow cards were still going into the box at a steady rate?
HANSON: Yeah, everything else worked the way it should. I mean, people went and saw the movie, and they dropped those cards in to win the free motorcycle. We would look at them, and there was all kinds of bullshit in there — “He kills because he’s been treated badly,” on and on. And then on the fifth or sixth night, I forget which night it was, one of those yellow cards came through the box – “I was here, the Zodiac.” That was all that was on there.
TOS: You didn’t see who dropped it into the box?
HANSON: No, we were screwed up because of [Ray Cantrell] almost dying in that goddamn freezer, so we didn’t get a physical identification of him. I think this was the second showing, and there weren’t that many people — I’m going to say 40 or 50, something like that. One of my guys was up by the projection booth and one of the other guys was in the theater, but we didn’t have a visual to go on...
Dillion was questioned a year after the case. It was the day of true crime magazines etc (and certainly we’ve seen the British press even in the modern era pay to get “scoops” from police) but I don’t know how pawed the files would’ve been in 1948.
Yeah, he also claimed his father was the Zodiac killer.
According to the sources in the Daily Mail piece over 500 people confessed to it
Oh my. Nothing like a body bisection to bring out the crazies.
Interesting. I would have swore that Hodel’s daughter or granddaughter is who wrote the book. But, apparently not which is weird because that doesn’t fit with how the mini-series was written. Dramatic license, I guess...lots of it.
Seems to share a lot of the plot lines from the movie ‘LA Confidential’.
Hotel has been my thought for years. I still am not positive but this guy knowing things not released to the public…
Another book claims Orson Welles did it. He was in the area, took that day off from filming, and sent a letter from the same post office on the same day as the killer.
Bkmk.
Nothing like that movie, for heavens sakes did you even read the article?
Hodel. Stupid auto correct.
Read it all I was saying there is shared elements. I would like to discuss those but with some one more sober, and/or less belligerent. Have you considered confronting the person you are really angry with? Seem now days the only thing Freepers want to do is fight someone any one for any reason and general over stuff that are really inconsequential.
Seems too me you are the one making rude remarks.
Wish I hadn’t read that before bed.
Rude remarks?? Really Karen? Sorry to have troubled you.
Bttt
Lol read the article? In the late 80 ‘s Boston there was the swedish nanny murder she was last seen outside Zanzibar nightclub next day found only her upper body in a dumpster in the back bay close to where she was last seen. Murderer still at large lower part of her body never redcovered.
Next year is jack the rippers turn. Then the disappearance of jimmy hoffa.
And Jon Benet Ramsey.
