How many kids in other countries dream of being a US “football”, basketball or baseball star? How big is the global TV audience for US sports, especially compared with the World Cup? I would be willing to bet that more Americans watch Premiere League games than Brits watch any US sport.

Turning on the TV is a lame expression of interest compared to attending the game.

Next you'll compare clicking on a web link as an equivalent showing of interest as reading an entire book.

None of this changes the fact that “college” football will evolve into a semi-pro or minor league thanks to a rather correct ruling from SCOTUS. As for the Euros, they are generally a more cautious people than Americans by nature.

They do take it seriously. And actually I was heartened to see that the fans there revolted against a proposed European Super League, that would have destroyed domestic soccer across Europe.

And Rugger is a far more manly sport compared to soccer or American football

Next to no kids in other countries dream of being in American football.

Basketball is a different case - players from all over the world dream of being in the NBA

And Baseball - Dominicans, Cubans, Japanese and South Koreans aim for the American leagues.

Global audience for the Superbowl is practically non-existent. However Global audiences for American basketball and baseball are huge

"Global audiences" is nothing. Turning on the TV is nowhere near the commitment to attending a game.

Would you say I take cooking seriously if you saw me pop popcorn in the microwave? I doubt it. Would you say I take cooking seriously if I spent two hours cooking a four course meal? You probably would. Then how can turning on the TV to watch a game be at all compare to spending half a day or an entire day to attend a game?

Fairweather fans who just watch a sport on TV can't be counted with half the weight as those who fill many 100+K stadiums on a Saturday to see college football games in person. Until people in other countries fill 100+K stadiums for their sport of choice I'm counting them as not even half as interested as the 100+K Wolverines fans who fill their stadium, while 100+K Auburn fans fill their stadium, while 100+K Bama fans fill their stadium, while 100+K Vols fans fill their stadium, etc. for however many of them have home games that Saturday.

Next you'll equate the bandwidth used for porn as evidence than men must deeply care about women. LOL

Italy won because three of their players made their penalty kicks, while two missed, while only two of the England players made their penalty kicks while three missed. All three who missed appeared to be black. Have any commentators tried to blame the outcome on white supremacy yet?

Surprisingly, having been married to a Brit for decades, I had never watched any soccer games. I watched yesterday, only to be shocked at the penalties that only were awarded a ‘yellow card’ (a warning). The guy that clotheslined the English player with the player’s own shirt should have been expelled. If the neck of the shirt had been sharp, the player’s head would have come off. And the Italian didn’t just grab the shirt neckline….he grabbed it and pulled it back hard. I also saw an Italian player put his shoulder forward when the English player was running fast, but looking the other way at the ball. He went right into the Italian player’s shoulder with his temple. I really couldn’t believe the officiating or the blatant attempts to really injure other players. And yes, I was rooting for England. I didn’t see the English doing anything remotely like what the Italians were doing, penalty-wise.

England had some outstanding players to chose from. Think it’s on the manager/coach for his decision. Rashford is experienced enough to made a better attempt, but to put the 19 year old in wasn’t the brightest move.

Update...

Disaster-prone Cressida Dick is made a Dame Commander by Prince Charles as she tries to stay on as Met Police Commissioner despite string of controversies including Wembley security and Daniel Morgan inquiry

BTW, does what happened at Wembley remind anyone else of our January 6 "insurrection"...?
