There's actually a good amount of video-game addiction in the US. Personally I don't think it's a big deal. But there are those who see it as a threat to the establishment, etc. and would just LOVE to restrict it.
Full Disclosure: I'm not a gamer, never have been one, except for Rogue in the '80s, and brief runs of Tetris and Angry Birds many years ago.
