In his new memoir “Trejo,” the “Machete” star, 77, writes of meeting — and being hypnotized by — Charles Manson in 1961 while they were both locked up in the Los Angeles County Jail.
Trejo remembers that a “greasy, dirty, scrawny” Manson was “so poor, he didn’t have a belt, and instead used a piece of string to keep his pants up.”
The “Heat” star says he felt sorry at the time for Manson, who was so small, he needed protection. A couple of days after they met, the notorious criminal told Trejo and his pals that he had hypnotic powers and “could get us high.”

Had a friend that did time in Corcoran. Visited him a few times. Worst prison he served in. Your friend’s statement says a lot.
The guy was 5’ nothing. Prob just your run of the mill psycho! BTW Bugliosi was instrumental in the cover up! Typical Hollyweird...make sh!t up to cover your or someone’s a$$
I thought Cielo Drive was the former home of Terry Melcher, sometime producer for (and sometime member of) the Beach Boys.
Melcher thought Manson was not that great, and didn't want to work with him. We don't know what language Melcher used to communicate his lack of interest to Manson, but (knowing the LA music scene a little) he might have been fairly brutal in giving his verdict. There might have been a dope deal involved also, I think Manson was selling drugs to get by at the time, but I'm not sure.
By the time Manson's people turned up to murder everyone, Melcher had moved elsewhere; Roman Polanski was just one of a series of renters.
Sounds like the two of them crossed paths at Vacaville, before Charlie went to Corcoran.
Regarding The LaBianca's though they lived in the Los Feliz district near Vermont Ave. This is several miles away. They were not connected to the music or Hollywood scene, to my knowledge, at least.
I have to agree. I’m no expert on Charlie M, and it’s certainly true that he was in and out of L.A. county jail during the period in question... but this sounds far-fetched. It makes for a good story... hypnotized by Manson, but Manson wasn’t “Manson” in 1961. I mean to say that he wasn’t this infamous maniac that anyone would even think twice about. He was just a nobody petty criminal in a sea of nobody petty criminals. But Trejo just happened to be hangin’ out with the guy and getting hypnotized. It’s not impossible, I guess, but it just seems unlikely. And who’s available to verify or contradict this anecdote from 60 years ago? Convenient.
And he had an IQ of 145.
Manson always looked like he was high on lsd. Although, I have read he preferred to hold back while dosing his family. He probably thought he had the power to destroy the world at any second if he wanted to. He believed what he was saying.
Danny’s best was taking a ride on a Desert tortoise.

BOOM!
They had the bad luck to live next door to someone Manson knew and visited.
sounds to me like he needs more money. No one EVER “hiptomized” me! Now... I did fall prey to a few narsicist women(my fault - I DO NOT BLAME THEM!), their beauty, lies, selfishness + my desires and hopes for the future = their gain via my pain. OH! If I could go back knowing what I know now. The crap I could avoid.
Manson was no Epstein.
And those people want you to believe it. What they are capable of. What shuts those people down absolutely cold is when they realize what you are capable of. It is what you communicate to them by your presence. It is called by many names but it is an aspect of life force. The will to survive, to do whatever it takes, the ability to provide unremitting hell should the been arise. It either lives within you or it doesn’t.
Although it is often an act, that is true, and a person who is also capable of doing damage and is bigger and stronger will often shut down posers.
I think it is fair to say that 6’5” veteran cops, who interviewed Manson and were freaked out by him, probably had good reason to be freaked out by him.
The question is, why? Why did they find CM scary or frightening?
