With all the political and social media turmoil, there seems to have been about a half a dozen new start-ups to replace FAKEBOOK.

I don't know WHAT Trump's new site will be like, but if it s anything like parler, mewe and all the rest ... it's gonn'a fail.

THIS has been the vanguard of user friendly sites and I just wanted to say why I was thankful for FR.

The GREATEST feature of FR is the reply system;

I say something and forget all about it until a week later, someone comes home from vacation, sees my posts and replies to it;

"Not only THAT knarf, but the blue one too!"

"HUH?"

and all I have to do is click the reference number and I go to the post and the reply makes sense.

That does not happen in an other platform I know of.

Agree. The FR forum software is the best on the interwebs, proving that Leonardo da Vinci was onto something when he said that "simplicity is the highest sophistication." Conversations flow naturally even when they branch out, with no need for no steenking outline to organize them. Overall it just works, which is sort of the holy grail of tech and especially of interfaces. Somehow the Robinsons managed to nail it right out of the gate twenty something years ago.

A nice improvement would be the ability to preview the title when posting an article. And of course image hosting. Maybe also more HTML automation, like the ability to automatically create hot links even after you've used an HTML tag.

As another member of the class of ‘98, I agree that the FR engine is without a doubt the best thing going! Yes, there have been changes along the way but Jim has held a steady hand on the tiller and brought us through some challenging times. There was once a way to determine the sequence of signup but that is long gone - does anyone remember the number members with screen names in 1998?

I started lurking here in 2003 when my son deployed to Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division, that’s where “MountainDad” came from....

Anywho, I was starving for any info from Iraq early in that war, 2003, second wave in, and a friend told me about FR.

In his 3 tours, this is the place I got the most accurate information regarding his missions there.

The members here are the most knowledgeable people on the internet. That’s what great about FreeRepublic.

I agree with every word you said, knarf.

FR has been my haven. I don't want to go into the turmoil I've been through these past years since 1998. It's just too much. Through it all, FR has been here for me. So many were here for me when I lost my dad, then my younger brother, then my mom. I've lost loved pets, family members and a marriage to a woman I never should've married in the first place.

I've received so much good and thoughtful advice, guidance, and a willing ear from people I'll never meet - yet wish I could because I owe them such a debt of gratitude for helping me through the hardest times of my life.

I would not be here today posting this response were it not for FR and relationships that I've established on here.

Thank you Jim Robinson. For having the courage, guts, fortitude and the strength to keep FR going all these years. You're amazing.

When I see groups of random people out on the streets these days protesting the steal, the indoctrination, and many other attacks on our Republic, I know that dozens of chapters of freepers across the nation went before, starting out decades ago. FReepers were razzed, freeping was scorned—and now people all over the country are doing it!
