Matthew McConaughey, who is mulling a run for Texas governor, delivered a typically surreal July 4 message on Sunday, declaring that America is still “going through puberty” while also urging Americans “to keep maturing.”
The. Hollywood star delivered his address against the backdrop of an American flag while wearing sunglasses and sporting slick-backed hair.
“Happy Birthday America. Yes indeed, as we celebrate our independence today, as we celebrate our birth as a nation today that kick started our revolution to gain our sovereignty, let’s admit that this last year’s trip around the sun was also another head scratcher,” Matthew McConaughey said.
“But let’s also remember that we are babies, you know, as a country. We are basically going through puberty in comparison to other countries’ timeline, and we’re going to go through growing pains, we are going through growing pains. This is not an excuse to say this is just a reality.”

Matthew McConaughey must think we need to go thru many many many many wars with many millions of people killed like in those older wiser countries. Have kings and queens start wars. The past century with WW1 & WW2 are just a few of the wars that killed off a few generations of people plus left the world in tatters that ended up killing millions more.
Plus be controlled like they do in socialist countries with ‘wiser’ people running things while they get the gold and you own nothing and told you should be happy about it.
A leftist Gov. in Texas in this terrible hour would be as bad as Neville Chamberlain was for England. This IS war, and the Rio Grande is the battle front. Different rules, but the same as Dunkirk or the Blitz.
He’s going through puberty, and should stop gripping himself in public. It feels good, but it’s disgusting to watch.
West won’t be the nominee, and it won’t be close.
Sounded a lot like the conversations you hear after several bong hits…
I would not want to be on the receiving end of Col. West in a debate. He’s running to win. Abbott served his 8 years and it’s time for a change.
Well, debates don’t mean much. Abbott won last time by 14 when the Tedster barely won by 3. He won’t lose.
Allen could be putting his talents to use where he can actually win. This smacks of Alan Keyes multiple “senate” and “presidential” runs when he couldn’t win a House seat.
I disagree. Debates do matter, especially if they expose a presumed leading candidate as astonishingly weak. Trump flourished in them and put to bed the attempts to install El Jebbe as the designated loser for 2016.
You’re also comparing a general election win when I’m talking about the primary. Abbott faced a nutjob ultraleftist midget lesbian Latina opponent who was given very little chance of winning. All the energy of the 2018 general in TX was focused on defeating Ted Cruz by the establishment/media/pop culture backing of Beta O’Cuck, AKA Irish Boob. Cruz will not likely face such a close challenge again, the 1st Senate reelections are often the toughest race they tend to face and where Republicans have often proven quite adept at losing.
Col. West is putting his talents to use in a winnable race against a vulnerable incumbent who had a terrible mishandling of the ice storm of earlier this year.
The comparison to Alan Keyes is quite poor. Keyes was not running to win the Presidency, even his supporters would tell you that. His runs for Senator in Maryland and Illinois were not considered winnable. He’s never won office. Col. West has, and also served as TX GOP Chairman during a critical year. Keyes was lied to in agreeing to run for IL Senator, where he didn’t even live. He believed he’d be supported by the IL GOP. The corrupt RINOs in charge had no intention of giving him any support and used him to try to discredit attempts by Conservatives to win primary nominations. Far from any similarity to Col. West.
“This smacks of Alan Keyes multiple “senate” and “presidential” runs when he couldn’t win a House seat.”
I despise Keyes. That grandstanding moron gave us Obama.

Get back to me after he gets about 20% of the vote.
So,tax payers paying for infanticide or removing a male’s genitals so that person can pretend to be a female.. is all grown up?
Joe biden is so grown up he has dementia.
"Young America" isn't necessarily a slam. Being young may mean making mistakes but can also mean being strong and confident.
No, he didn’t. It was a set-up by the RINO wing of the IL Combine. They took out Zero’s real opponent and prevented any substantial replacement. Keyes had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. Blame those same RINOs for forcing out the excellent Sen. Peter Fitzgerald in order to install the jug-eared jackass.
“Keyes had no idea what was going on behind the scenes.”
If that’s true Keyes is stupid.
L
No, he was a sincere and decent man who was used by a corrupt and evil political machine.
As an aside, had Zero lost the Senate race, Hillary would’ve had clear sailing to the nomination in 2008 and would’ve been elected by her good friend, Juan McQueeg (just like how McQueeg helped elect his good friend, Zero).
Keyes was a grand standing carpet bagger who had no business in that race. If he couldn’t see that he was being used then he’s not half as smart as he thinks he is.
L
Keyes came across as “desperate for office” too desperate to actually be elected !
The guy is from Maryland. He hadn’t set foot in Illinois until the Senate race. Then he ran an abysmal campaign that basically handed the Senate seat to Obama on a platter.
I was there. I cringed every time he opened his mouth. The machinations of the Illinois GOP aside Keyes should have politely declined to run.
But he was to egotistical to do that.
L
A lot better a person than most of the individuals he was seeking to represent in the Senate.
He’s not a deep thinker.
