Today a peacock, tomorrow the local garage band...
Who will rid me of this meddlesome peacock?
The birds are, at best, a nuance. Animal control too busy killing dogs to come pick up the bird?
And yes, they are loud and easily mistaken for a woman screaming...

There’s a peacock wandering around my neighborhood in the mountains visiting our bird feeders. Maybe we’ll soon have some strange-looking wild turkey chicks.
I'm thinking not.
Decades ago, we lived in the Sac. area.
A feral peacock was on the loose and would scream like a woman before it nested for the night and at daylight. Also if it sensed or felt that another critter was after it during the night.
One night its screeching was cut short with a shotgun blast, followed by silence and then cheers.
Peacocks and Peahens are a non native invasive species. They need to be exterminated like rats. They are extremely noisy.
Ouch. That’s pretty loud. The bird should have been captured and relocated.
There are a gazillion peacocks in the Bay area (Tampa).
Problem is that when a peacock is fully grown, there are very few predators in the urban environment (coyotes).
Plus, St. Pete and Tampa city protect them.
Only real predator is a car.

I’ve been doing my own hits on the Canada Geese in our ponds.
The fish are happy not having as much poohpaste in their water.
The other breeds of ducks are returning
And the dock isn’t as slippery.
I’ve been doing my own hits on the Canada Geese in our ponds.
Shoot. Shovel. Shut up.
I don’t like to just kill off animals. Even when they’re invasive. (Starlings are invasive but I guess people gave up on that.)
I’d endeavor to have the animal taken by animal control or perhaps one of those many refuges or petting zoos or other animal places, even if they are silly tourist traps.
Have you noticed how Canada Geese never seem to migrate over the last few decades?
I’m in MD and our ponds used to have DUCKS. Mallards of course mostly, but around the ‘80s they’ve been dominated by geese.
I almost never see ducks anymore! Never! To think I’m so excited to see some!
Guess what really started heavily in the ‘80s? More so now since the ‘90s.
Sediment ponds. For every damn “development” that pops up….everywhere. They do this in the name of “saving the Bay”.
Meanwhile, I think it has made this place too hospitable for the geese, and they never leave, and they chase away the smaller ducks.
So seems to me the environmental wackos are altering the environment beyond what it should be and changing it in other ways.
That you Tony?
Giving the bird a name does not make it human. Calling it a mascot does not change anything about the bird.
They forgot the “dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth” thing.

Agreed.
