Reflections on The 4th, Verion 2921

“The simplest definition of mental illness (and insanity) is the inability to recognize and comply with reality.” (My college statistics instructor who was a professor of psychology)

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom” – Psalm 111:10

I often reflect on the nature of culture and nationhood, never more contemplatively than on the Fourth of July when I re-read and consider the observations within the Declaration of Independence. In so doing I recognize that, according to my statistics instructor, we are living in an Age of Insanity.

As our nation is seemingly rife with incurious, gullible and servile inhabitants, we would be well-served to reflect seriously on the document encapsulating the mission statement for the greatest nation ever known to man, the only nation ever founded on a creed rather than geography or lineage. (It is always worth remembering that the US Constitution did not establish the nation, it is merely is the flawed set of rules for its governance, “suitable only for a moral and religious people.” Well, we know how that worked out.). I am an unabashed partisan in the cause of Life, Liberty, and Property (the original wording) and find The Declaration to be the most noble civil document ever created by mankind. I pray you too will read and reflect on the ideas expressed by men who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to pursue the path of liberty. Its insights are much like reading the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament; more up-to-date regarding the human condition than are tomorrow's headlines.

We find ourselves in a time where the nation has already split into two camps, the patriots and those who are not. That secession has not yet become fully dynamic or codified either through open and widespread civil conflict or legal partition, but is has already occurred in fact and in spirit. The United States was founded as a vision, and now a large component of its population despises that vision.

As persons respectful of the Biblical values on which the nation was founded, we find ourselves facing an enemy every bit as “inevitable” as did The Founders, enemies who not only despise the nation and everything it once stood for but also control every public institution that inculcates true citizenship; schools (although there are gillers of hope in th spontaneous parent revolts across the land), courts, most churches, large corporations, communication networks, legislatures, and especially bureaucracies. They are firmly in the hands of the enemy, every one of them. Whether or not they see the coming catastrophe as the inevitable result of their inability to comprehend and comply with reality is irrelevant. It is coming. As CS Lewis once remarked, “Reality is a ruthless instructor, it does not care whether you agree with it or not.” Godless tyranny always results in calamity. Always.

As we now see multitudes of thoughtful voices silenced by self-righteous and self-indulgent mobs, a population cowed into terrified submission by hegemonic grifters, and confiscatory governance at the hands of an intractable and irretrievably corrupt Deep State, we can sense the scope of the reclamation task before us. Through our ambivalence and inaction the status quo is in part our fault and we must become passionately engaged, heroic, and dynamic to take back our divided nation.

In my many recitations of the Declaration I am always broken by the final sentence, unable to speak it because I am overcome with emotions; gratitude to the Founders and contempt for our own self-absorbed pagan generation who squandered their incomparable gift. The Founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, our generation cannot even be bothered to be well-informed or think critically about anything important. Patriotic citizenship is a difficult, uncomfortable, and sometimes unpleasant task as we confront and neutralize our hostile and servile collectivist, pagan, insane neighbors.

May God grant mercy on this nation rather than the retribution it deserves, and I believe will receive in very short order. As my favorite podcaster often proclaims, “It is revival or bust.”

I earnestly pray he is wrong, but fear in my heart he is not.
