LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Venetian Resort Las Vegas says last night a lucky guest turned a $5 bet into more than $1.5 million on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine.
The jackpot was hit when the lucky symbols lined up to activate the progressive jackpot.
The casino said the winner wished to remain anonymous.
Maybe I should make a $5 bet next time in a casino...
There was one time when I made a $3 bet on a slot machine...I did not win anything...
They had more than $5.00 in the machine before the jackpot hit.
Being able to win bonuses like this 1.5Mil win often requires the player to put in a max bet. A max bet will give you multipliers on multiple lines and bonuses if you hit certain combos while playing the max bet.
Even penny machines have ludicrous max bets where you can play up to 400 pennies a pull, i.e. $4 in order to take advantage of all the bonuses.
My mom and I like to play once or twice a year, but we often spend a lot of time hunting down the few old machines where the max bet is only 3 or 5 quarters. These machines will often wipe out our predetermined limits, but at least it will take a few hours rather than a few minutes.
I really don't see where all of the other folks playing the penny and dollar machines get the finances to stick it out for more than a few minutes at the newer machines.

Ward, you're pissing me off. Now you're insulting my intelligence; what you think I am, a f____' idiot? You know g____ well that someone had to get into those machines and set those f___in' reels. The probability of one four-reel machine is a million and a half to one; the probability of three machines in a row; it's in the billions! It cannot happen, would not happen, you f____' momo! What's the matter with you? Didn't you see you were being set up on the second win?
I do the same thing...Looking for old machines...I am not a fan of new machines...I play mostly penny machines...30 pennies a bet...That is high enough for me...40 pennies a bet...That is a little too high for me...
i am surprised the casino is paying out
everytime i hear about someone winning they claim its a software error

Future headline: Unlucky gambler turned $1.5M win into $0
When I signed up at a local casino (so I could eat there at a discount), they gave away a free slot token. I didn’t win anything and therefore was not tempted. IF they had been smart they would have let me win $20 so I would get hooked. Lucky for me that didn’t happen.
Thousands of people and millions of dollars met the same fate. The casino will be happy to publicize this win because it will bring in thousands of more suckers.
One night he saw the doctor in the high roller's slot machine area with a big smile on his face. He told him that he had just won a $50,000 jackpot. After he had congratulated him on his win the doctor told him "Now I'm only $30,000 down!" and he wasn't kidding. This was the doctor's way of having fun.
I bought a $50 FreePlay using MyVegas points a few years ago. I decided to play the $1 old style reels at Mandy Bay and won $5000, so it can definitely happen. I especially love that I was playing on the casino’s money, lol.
That’s a real gambler!
To gamblers, money is just a way to keep score.
Most likely we will read tomorrow that after studying the slot machine in question there was a malfunction and the patron did not win the jackpot. The Venetian regretted the error and comp the patron with free buffet and drink vouchers a free room upgrade and a Venetian t-shirt and ball cap

My best ever slot payout was $1200 on a progressive penny machine in Laughlin NV about 10 years ago. It was quite a thrill as the floor worker counted out that win after it was verified.
Those are called hand pays….and I love them. I play multicard or 4 card keno, and I win. I won $1600 Thursday night. I’m in Vegas now. Come here every 2-3 weeks because I have friends here. Last time I was here I won $2000. I think it was in December I won $10,000. They say keno has the worse house odds but I win playing it. And I love the hand pays.
A person I knew, addicted to the slots, won $1.5 million on a progressive quarter machine. Flat broke in less than two years. A whole lot of the winnings went right back down the slot.
About 15 years ago I had a beer-money night stocker job at WalMart in Mesquite, NV. On my night off, a buddy of mine told me that one of the guys I worked with had his wife show up at 2 a.m. carrying a BIG copy of a check for something like $987,000 she had won on the Wheel of Fortune slot machine.
The guy didn’t show up any more. :-)
Met him a few weeks later and asked him if the took the full amount, less taxes. He said they wouldn’t let him, and doled it out to them in $45K+ payments for 20 years.
Five years ago, the neighbor across the street from me won $7,000 on the slots. He was a retired Marine and LIVED at the casino. His sister made him buy a used car else he would have fed it all back.
