True, it stems from people being ignorant of what fascism is. People think it's meanies in spiffy uniforms putting people in concentration camps. Reality is that it's an authoritarian socialist system that differs from communism in only one significant way: it allows private property and business but only under total control of the state. That's it, they are the same.

China = fascist, there are rich people in China who run massive companies, not something you see in truly communist nations. But you know those companies all take their orders from the authoritarian socialist government. Period. Fascist.

And it actually works pretty well. Fascism resurrected Italy, powered the first few years of Germany’s resurgence, and has been the force that has let China rise.

Private industry tends to like having the variable of which party to contribute to eliminated, and private property and business grow quite nicely with some of the turbulence of a truly free market eliminated.

People conflating ‘Fascist’ with ‘Nazi’ really set my teeth on edge; Nazism was all about race, fascism is about private property under a single party.
