Former U.S. Senator from Minnesota Al Franken is going back on the road for a national comedy tour.
Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis just added a second show in October because of high demand.
More than three years ago, Franken resigned from the Senate amid sexual misconduct allegations.
Jane Kirtley, a professor of media ethics and law at the University of Minnesota, said as time has passed and other scandals have dominated the headlines, some will look at Franken through a different lens.
"People's memories can be long, but they also can be very short," Kirtley said. "There is that kind of American notion that you can always reinvent yourself. You can always have a second act. Maybe this is going to be Al Franken's second act."
In preparing for Franken's shows, the Hennepin Theatre Trust said in a statement: "We don't anticipate any protesting, but will be prepared to ensure everyone's safety should anyone show up."
KSTP reached out to Franken for comment but hasn't heard back.
A pathetic jackass with no brains, ethics or morals. The perfect Democrat politician. Probably on their short list of presidential candidates.
It’s possible...
Even before politics became a thing for me, I always thought that boob was the unfunniest poser on the circuit. I never got how anybody thought he was funny.
Franken’s small role as a train baggage handler in “Trading Places” was the high point of his career, and as much as he was ever qualified for as an actor, comedian, or human being.
Wasn’t funny the first time around...
Al Franken was never funny. And if it weren’t for the genius of the original SNL cast he never would have had a career in show business.
Doper and Groper.
Well, Jane, if Al was your husband, would you have a short memory?
I remember when Franken was on SNL. That was before I knew of his politics.
He had his occasional moments but all in all, he was not particularly funny.
In many ways, his comedy shtick reminds me of Stephen Colbert, another un-funny comedian.
He’s not funny.
Well that's a laugh.
I still remember a clip shown of Keith Olbermann claiming “Al Franken has clocked Rush Limbaugh” gushing that Air America was a rousing and growing success. Absolute bunk.
