Deadly spitting zebra cobra which can blind its prey from 9ft away is still on the loose in North Carolina after escaping its owner, sparking fear and anger among his neighbors

A highly dangerous zebra cobra snake has escaped its home and is on the loose in Raleigh, North Carolina, officials said on Tuesday.

Raleigh Police Department issued an alert to locals to watch out for the venomous creature after it escaped its owner and was was spotted on a porch at 5:10 p.m. EST Monday, according to CBS affiliate WNCN.

Animal control was called after it was initially spotted, but by the time they had arrived, the snake had left the area.

Zebra cobras are known for their dangerous venom and are native to southern Africa, including Angola, Namibia and South Africa.

Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Raleigh-based Avian and Exotic Animal Care, told WRAL that this type of cobra 'doesn't typically bite,' but its venom spray is 'very accurate and go straight for the eyes.'

She added that she does not recommend keeping this type of pet as a pet, because of the risks associated with it.

If someone were hit with the poison, they would feel pain, swelling, blistering, and in some cases, tissue damage, the African Snake Bite Institute said.

Good morning, Sal. Are all your buddies tucked in nice and cozy? Nobody out roaming the neighborhood?

In many of the videos, Gifford appears in a yard with an uncaged cobra, filming it crawling through the grass.

“She is so unhappy right now,” he says in a video, as the cobra hisses and raises its hood. “Gotta love having a cobra. It’s sick. I mean, how often can you say that I get to play with my cobra? Every day.”

In another, he allows the snake to crawl out of a large garbage can.

“We’re gonna let her come out,” he says. “’Cause she’s not hurting anybody. OK, let’s get her to hood up. You got her, Dad? Oh, she’s moving. There we go. There’s that beautiful cobra.”

There are always these types who humanize animals and think they have a “special” connection to read an animals emotions. In the same stroke, they dehumanize people who question them and their motives (all the nuts on Tiger King highlight this).

They are delusional and dangerous. Man living with bears in an Alaskan documentary and feeding them, letting them come into his home etc. The other bear but Timothy Tredwell who got himself and his girlfriend eaten alive by a grizzly.

They get in over their head quickly and endanger everyone and Everythjng around them, including the animals they claim to “love.” Let’s face it. They crave attention and the animals are like accessories to gain that attention....much like the gay pay for egg or spend crowd to buy babies they cannot have themselves. Just all for attention.

Why do these idiots think a cobra is a good pet?

Some thirty years ago, I visited the house of a friend from work. He told me to watch where I stepped, so I wouldn’t accidentally step on his pet rattlesnake, which had the run of the house. I did not stay long, because I hate snakes and wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible.
He died about 3 or 4 years later. Do I need to say it, snakebite?

It should be illegal to keep deadly venomous snakes as household pets.

What if it identifies as a poodle?

In his book "Jungleman" Major P.J. Pretorius writes about hunting in Africa with some local natives as guides. As they climbed over a rock they surprised a spitting cobra that sprayed a native in the eyes. The other natives held him down while another pi$$ed in his eyes. Pretorius writes that although his eyes were sore and swollen it saved him from going blind.

IIRC, “Bring ‘em Back Alive” Frank Buck was hit in the eyes by one also.

Maybe he’ll find a mate and they’ll have lots of little spitting cobras.

I have been collecting Big game/explorer books for years but have never heard of Frank Buck. I’ll have to check him out.

I’ve read that if someone is hit with this venom to quickly wash out the eyes, and the most available fluid is usually ...urine.

Well, as what else other than a pet could you keep "this type of pet?"

Snake was captured Wednesday. Reporter was going to the home where it was last seen on Monday, and she spotted it on the porch, where it first had been located. Reporter alerted nearby police and animal control who eventually wrangled the critter.

The douchebag who own the venomous reptiles lives with his parents and keeps them in their basement. Strict rules apply to maintaining them, and he obviously has violated them. There are/were videos on TikTok & other platforms showing him handling the snakes, including allowing the zebra cobra to crawl outside in the grass and irritating it to show its hood. That video has been deleted.

The idiot should/must have all taken away. Terrorized a neighborhood for days. Also check the dirtbag’s social media and purchases. Wouldn’t be surprised he’s a mass shooter in waiting.
