They’ve concocted one of the most transparently silly talking points in memory to defend this position.
The quickest way to check out new Democratic Party talking points is to head over to Dana Milbank’s column in the Washington Post. His latest — initially headlined “Even the Squad is more pro-police than these Republicans,” but later changed to read, “Republicans have a new strategy: Blue Lies Matter” — is a snarky regurgitation of White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s highly inventive assertion that Republicans are really the anti-cop party. Why? Because they voted against President Biden’s $1.9 trillion boondoggle “rescue” package, which included $350 billion for state and local governments that could be spent on police.

The democRAT voters will believe this.
First, they defend the police.
Then, after considerable madness, the dems bring in the new improved, STAZI, NKVD, whatever the name, in the guise of offering protection.
Dana Milbank (and E. J. Dionne) are two of the Washington Post’s top smear artists and disinformation promoters. Their jobs are to smear anyone who is conservative, esp. if they are knowledgeable anti-communists/scholars, economists, doctors, and journalists.
Milbank’s tactics are very reminiscent of the old KGB “disinformation” techniques with a more modern communist Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” thrown in for more flavor.
The word “truth” is never allowed to come from either of these leftist putzes mouths or it might burn their tongues off.
The Marxist/CRT people in education have their Xendi, D’Angelo, Kunte-Kinte, Howard Zinn and old Soviet operative/CPUSA member I.F. Stone to use for texts and indoctrination, smear campaigns, and outright Soviet/Communist propaganda vehicles.
The Wash. Post has Milbank, Dionne, Karen DeYoung (Sandinista gal), Margaret Sullivan (columnist), and Ruth Marcus (the crazy old lady who likes to sit in the front row of journalistic smear campaigns like Madame Lafarge did during the French Revolution).
Once you have a playbill of Wash. Post propagandist/leftists and Marxists, you can read their writings like a play script to the point that you can leave the theater before the end of the show because you already know how they will end it, anti-American, Marxist, and psychopathic.
The new communists are just like the old communists.
