Enhanced D-D Fusion Rates when the Coulomb Barrier Is Lowered by Electrons
Alfred Y. Wong, Alexander Gunn, Allan X. Chen, Chun-Ching Shih, Mason J. Guffey
A profusion of unbound, low-energy electrons creates a local electric field that reduces Coulomb potential and increases quantum tunneling probability for pairs of nuclei. Neutral beam-target experiments on deuterium-deuterium fusion reactions, observed with neutron detectors, show percentage increases in fusion products are consistent with electron-screening predictions from Schrodinger wave mechanics. Experiments performed confirm that observed fusion rate enhancement with a negatively biased target is primarily due to changes to the fusion cross section, rather than simply acceleration due to electrostatic forces. new USPTO patent on fusion assisted by electron screening --
United States Patent 11,049,621 June 29, 2021
Submicron fusion devices, methods and systems
Abstract
Methods, apparatus, devices, and systems for creating, controlling, conducting, and optimizing fusion activities of nuclei. In particular, the present inventions relate to, 5 among other things, fusion activities that are conducted individually or collectively on a very small scale, preferably on the nano-scale or smaller such as pico to femto scales, for the utilization of energy produced from these activities in smaller devices and for aggregation into larger devices.

for the cold fusion ping list
Excellent news. Sounds like practical fusion is only 15 years away. As usual.
For the last 50 years or so!
>> Schrodinger wave mechanics
My next cat, should I get one, will be named “DD”
I’m partial to double D’s.
So Pons and Fleischmann were right. We’re only 30 years away from nuclear fusion as an energy source.

The issue isn’t whether we allow skepticism, it is whether we allow hyperskeptics and skeptopaths to ruin the scientific dialog. Civil discussion is requested.

I hope LENR, once we learn to master it, will create new meta materials that we haven’t known before.
imho, the key to really future nuclear reactors is the ability to convert electron scatter directly into electricity— rather than use it to heat a boiler.
This looks like it may have something to do with that.
But likely not.
Can you describe the significance of this article in terms of the end toward which the researchers are addressing their study?
IMO, the reverse is more likely...new meta materials will make lattice confinement fusion possible/more efficient. Pons and Fleischmann used pure palladium, but there is a lot of information showing up that the meta-structure of the lattice is critical.
There are even hints that lattice confinement fusion can happen in the sun, with metallic hydrogen forming the lattice. There is a YouTube video setting out the hypothesis and supporting evidence. Will post link to that in a separate response.
It’s the hot-fusioneers who have held up all the progress while spending hundreds of $billions of taxpayer money.
The significance is that it is yet another iteration of experiment + theory leading to a patent in cold fusion. Against heavy opposition.
“imho, the key to really future nuclear reactors is the ability to convert electron scatter directly into electricity— rather than use it to heat a boiler.”
***That rings a bell.
. Secondly, its system is built to directly recover electricity, while other fusion systems heat water to create steam to turn a turbine which loses a lot of energy in the process.
