Florence Fang defended her colorful, bulbous-shaped house and its elaborate homage to “The Flintstones” family, featuring Stone Age sculptures inspired by the 1960s cartoon, along with aliens and other oddities.
The town, however, called the towering dinosaurs and life-size sculptures “a highly visible eyesore” and sued Fang, alleging she violated local codes when she put dinosaur sculptures in the backyard and made other landscaping changes that caused local officials to declare it a public nuisance.
An attorney for the town previously said residents are required to get a permit before installing such sculptures, regardless of the theme.

You always enjoy seeing private citizens sticking it to their hapless neighbors.
I’ve known of Florence Fang since I moved to the Bay Area more than 30 years ago, and I’ve known of the Flintstone House for about that long, but this is the first I’d heard that she owns it now.
Florence Fang (Chinese: 方李邦琴; born 1933/1934) is a Chinese-American businesswoman, publisher, and philanthropist active in the San Francisco area. She is the former owner of the San Francisco Examiner and other media titles and has been a fund-raiser for the Republican Party.
So you believe that local governments should dictate what private citizens’ homes and yards look like?
That’s quite Soviet.
It’s called zoning.
Very ordinary in developed areas.
It’s a good thing.
I suppose you think HOAs are great too? Better get that grass under 5 inches long or the paperwork with your fine will be in the mail!
Wow, that thing is ugly!
Not necessarily. I lived under a HOA for about a decade.
Never again.
There are in plenty of places. And I don't mean developments with homeowners associations, I mean towns where everyone owns and maintains their own properties.
Exactly right! I had plenty of opportunities to buy houses where there was an HOA. Even when the HOA rules were minimal, I absolutely refused. Drove my wife nuts when we shopped for houses.
No petty tyrant is going to come along and tell me what to do on my own property. I’ve always kept the place looking great because I take pride in it. But regardless of whether I did or didn’t, no one is going to come and tell me what I can and cannot do with my own damn property.

It’s called gun control

It’s called abortion

HOAs don’t even matter anymore
Your town’s zoning officer and code enforcement is way more powerful then Karen with her clipboard.
And they are 10000x more political and more vindictive.
You don’t own your property, the government does
Nonsense.
We took the kids to bedrock once. It was a lot of fun.
Since when did big government solve a problem?
And when you let government have a little power, they take as much as possible
Gun control was about keeping guns away from criminals, they said, now everyone who wants a gun is treated like a criminal
Abortion was suppose to rare and in extreme circumstances, they said, now it is millions of babies a year.
Zoning was suppose to keep big polluting factories away from your house, they said. Now you have armies of government bureaucrats measuring grass and making sure your shed is exactly 10feet from the property line.
Every time you gave government an inch of your rights, they took a mile
The bottom two are prior photos. It used to be a more modest tan, then got painted that adobe red / orange color which wasn’t too bad. She bought it like that, then proceeded to repaint it and add the colorful yard artwork.
Ms. Fang could always move to Pahrump. Her callous disregard for her neighbors would go unnoticed.
Heck. It might even be celebrated.
FYI:
The Real Flintstone House is at 10124 Pacific View Trail, Malibu. It is above Point Magu and was built by Dick Clark in the mid to late 1980’s. I have been there a lot of times, cute place.
Every last detail regarding construction and furniture, you name it was right out of the Flintstones. Kari sold it a while back, I have polaroids at my other house, it was way Cute!!
Its her Constitutional right for her to stay right in the house she bought and loves.
If you don’t like her as your neighbor, how about you move to Pahrump?
Stop being a Karen, none of your neighbors owe you anything
