...drawing comparisons to the Pixar flick “Up” in which a balloon salesman clings stubbornly to his house as skyscrapers spring up around it.

Orlando Capote told CBS4 News in Miami that his father bought the humble single-family home in 1989, after escaping Cuba and working double jobs to achieve his American dream.

“The house is my soul,” said Capote. “So what good is it to sell your soul for all the money in the world?”

Capote’s father died in 2005. He then lost his mother last year, who asked before she died that the son not sell the “family treasure.”

“This house is like a hard drive. As I look around and live in it and move through it, I relive a lot of memories. That I could not find in another house.”

The fearless Floridian not only refuses to dishonor his mother’s wishes, he’s fighting back against the developers and city hall.

: Your hero Donald J. Tump would evict him now wouldn’t he?

No, don’t think so. Donald would have worked out a win/win.

That’s what you call ‘winning the battle, but losing the war’. I would not want to live like that, surrounded but nothing but dead, open space. In a way, that would make you a target for thieves, runaways or dope dealers who would then throw you, the owner out.

***This is what happened in the movie “There Will Be Blood”. ***

Reminds me of one of my favorite old movies, “Sally and St Anne”. Stars Ann Blyth and Edmund Gwenn. It is an oldie from 1952.

Can’t. We have a 3% a year cap on property tax.

As a partner in a real estate business, we get calls for properties that we own - especially the rooming homes we own - they offered high 6 figures for a duplex we bought at 75K four years ago. The duplex a 2 bedroom 1 bath on both side and we have it rented. What will they (our tenants) going to do?

We won't sell out from under them...

I understood her to mean she considered preaching the gospel more important than ANY political job. With respect to eternity, she prolly wasn’t too far wrong.

I believe it was actually a Looney Toons Cartoon where New York Skyscrapers were built around a Parcel of Land occupied by a small House that the owner wouldn’t sell. Can’t remember if it was a Bugs Bunny Cartoon.

"How to Murder Your Wife," starring Jack Lemmon, Terry-Thomas.
