...drawing comparisons to the Pixar flick “Up” in which a balloon salesman clings stubbornly to his house as skyscrapers spring up around it.
Orlando Capote told CBS4 News in Miami that his father bought the humble single-family home in 1989, after escaping Cuba and working double jobs to achieve his American dream.
“The house is my soul,” said Capote. “So what good is it to sell your soul for all the money in the world?”
Capote’s father died in 2005. He then lost his mother last year, who asked before she died that the son not sell the “family treasure.”
“This house is like a hard drive. As I look around and live in it and move through it, I relive a lot of memories. That I could not find in another house.”
The fearless Floridian not only refuses to dishonor his mother’s wishes, he’s fighting back against the developers and city hall.

“That’s actually a pretty good idea if he’d go for it. It sounds like it will not be a peaceful, quiet environment to live in soon.”
Exactly, and it’s a win-win situation. The owner has already lost the familiar view out of his windows and the feel of the surroundings. He should save the house and get out of there.
This would be ideal ...I wonder if he has aproached them that they can have it for 1 million if they relocate the house
They offered him $900,000, a quick Zillow search shows he’ll need more than double that in Coral Gables.
I forgot about that general position of Trump.
Trump is ALL for ED for developers and Alcohol in the gas [now moving to more pumps with 15%].
Two positions I fundamentally oppose.
And pay What ever the owner wanted X3
Freepers are cowards. DJT would force these people out of their homes. You may have forgotten it when he was running for POTUS. Give him kudos for defending himself but he was wrong! Go ahead. Change the subject. That’s what democrats(cowards) do. Was Eric Holder right?
Eviction does not apply here. Trump doesn't own the property and the owner isn't Trump's tenant. Eminent domain doesn't apply either.
This happened in Elmhurst, Queens, NY

Another asstroll identified.
“Your hero Donald J. Tump would evict him now wouldn’t he?”

let’s cut the crap-U know exactly what I’m getting at. Don’t change the subject.
You seem angry. Strange...
I saw a case like this in the ‘90’s when silicon valley was growing. Neighborhood of old 2-bdrm homes from the ‘50’s were all bought up and demolished for office buildings. One guy held out, and they could not make him sell. The development went up as planned, and when finished it had a huge asphalt parking lot with this little house in the middle of it.
The mother already died...She asked the son not to sell their “family treasure”...He is keeping his word to his mother...
Many things can be done. They could support the house...frame and all...lift that baby out... Take it to an area of his choosing...and replant.
What is the remembrance of a house surrounded by or next to a monolithic building? I feel for the man ...hope he gets a good offer. I had to sell my moms and childhood house also.
This is the point where the developer buys the assessor a nice lake cabin. I’ve seen it play out before.
Soon, our boy can’t pay the taxes on the place.
He might have a hard time paying the property taxes once the property value shoots up to match the adjacent properties.
The guy seems to have a screw looose. He should have taken the $900k.
I know where that is. Queens Blvd near the LIE. The anchor store was originally a Macy’s. That area was pretty much rural when that house was built, before the subway was constructed. It was eventually knocked down.

I don’t know what you are talking about, but I think you have mental problems so amuse yourself by yourself.
