The Drummond ranch is outside of Pawhuska in Osage County,Oklahoma, which also covers the Osage Indian Tribal Reservation.
“the Osage” was one of the original big oil strikes in Indian Territory.
The Osage tribe pooled their oil royalties and divvied them up in the form of “head rights” which were awarded to each member of the original tribe.
the head rights were divisible & transferable, and greed and corruption prayed on the tribe & their head rights.
this led to the founding of the modern day “FBI”
for a fascinating read on the history of the Osage, you might try “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann
A very detailed novel describing the early days of the Osage.
I’ve heard the book is soon to be made into a movie on Apple plus TV.
“I’ve heard the book is soon to be made into a movie on Apple plus TV.”
The movie is in production right now in Osage County with Martin Scorsese directing and Leonardo DeCaprio starring.
The FBI was founded in 1908 as the Bureau of Investigation. It didn’t become the FBI until 1935. I assume the author is saying the agency built its early reputation on the case. The case clearly did not lead to its founding.
Great Non-Fiction (not a novel). Learned a LOT of things from this book that I didn’t know before. And it just scratched the surface of what went on there before the FBI stepped in.
