My Church Heritage and How It Shaped Me

My Christian Church heritage is important to me, because it’s where I began to grow in my faith. Even though the church where I work and call home isn’t part of the Christian Church, we did begin closely tied to them and still send kids to some of their camps and conferences.

Until recently, I didn’t know a whole lot about the history of the Christian Church beyond the basics. I knew that the Christian Church grew out of something called the Stone-Campbell Movement in the early 19th century, and I was aware that a few other quasi-denominations sprung from splits in the movement, giving us the Disciples of Christ, Churches of Christ, and the United Churches of Christ, among others.

Perhaps one should consider the Church founded by Jesus Christ for one’s salvation, and not the off shoots founded by man.

Perhaps one should reflect on ones relationship and belief with the God of the Bible and not what other people do.

There is no belief in the God of the Bible except it be through the finished work of Jesus Christ, His Son. For there is no other name given under heaven whereby a man may be saved.

It is He that bridged the unsurmountable gulf between a Holy God and sinful man. God the Father in His holy condition, turns his back upon all sin and sinners.

“Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?” (Habakkuk 1:13).

That’s good. It is almost a heresy for people to say, “You just need to believe in God.” The world doesn’t mind that at all seeing as how it can also be applied to “the god of the world.” They hate it, though, when you mention Jesus Christ. They hate that name, and those that proclaim it.

That’s because there is power in the Name

Amen! Power in the Name and power in the Blood! Only His perfect sacrifice of Himself could satisfy the demands of the Law and a holy God. That is why we can say we have been justified, and that basically means, “Just as if I’d never sinned.” They are all on Christ and under His blood.

First, people need to believe in their sin because there is no reason to want a Savior if you don’t think you need Saving. Too many churches want to avoid talk of sin and that’s not good.

I’d rather a preacher get up and cuss a blue streak than get up and tell people they don’t deserve to go to Hell because they are fine just the way God made them.

All who accept Christ’s offer of forgiveness freely given belong to the Church founded by Jesus Christ. Even some Roman Catholics belong to the Church Christ founded.

Those who are baptized are part of the Body of Christ, even if they are apart from the Catholic Church founded by Jesus.

Part of being a Christian is belonging to Christ’s Church. Jesus founded a Church to care for and guide us as we make our way through life. It is a Church full of saints and sinners, but it is also the source of grace and true teaching.

Over time there arose many offshoots, but you need to join the one Church that Jesus founded. He founded it for you, to take care of you and your spiritual needs, and it is the one he promised to guide and to preserve against the gates of hell.

Jesus said his Church would be “the light of the world.” He then noted that “a city set on a hill cannot be hid” (Matt. 5:14). This means his Church is a visible organization. It must have characteristics that clearly identify it and that distinguish it from other churches. Jesus promised, “I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). This means that his Church will never be destroyed and will never fall away from him. His Church will survive until his return.

Jesus assured the apostles and their successors, the popes and the bishops, “He who listens to you listens to me, and he who rejects you rejects me” (Luke 10:16). Jesus promised to guide his Church into all truth (John 16:12–13). We can have confidence that his Church teaches only the truth.

Why does one say they are a follower of Christ when they follow man-made heretical beliefs that are in conflict with the teachings of Jesus and Catholic Church that Christ founded?

Your statement: “All who accept Christ’s offer of forgiveness freely given belong to the Church founded by Jesus Christ.” Where did this come from? Your opinion?

Jesus told us “teaching them all that I have commanded you;”

Part of being a Christian is belonging to Christ’s Church. Jesus founded a Church to care for and guide us as we make our way through life. It is a Church full of saints and sinners, but it is also the source of grace and true teaching.

Your comment: “Perhaps one should reflect on ones relationship and belief with the God of the Bible and not what other people do.”

Yes, and encourage all to follow God’s Truth and not man-made heretical religious beliefs.

If so, why would they continue to attend the pagan Church of Rome?
